While considering and pricing solar I began to assimilate a basic list for leaving and being somewhat assured of my safety and the safety of others.

1) New tires, mine are good but 8 years old. No weather cracking but still need to replace. X4

2) Roof resealed, $200.00

3)dent in the corner from my jack-knife, $200.00 approx.

4)Getting the fridge and heater to light on propane. Fridge works fine on electric. cost ?

5(Solar. The gorilla in the room. Who the hell knows. anywhere from $300.00 to $1000.00 plus installation.

6(Repair power steering on my truck, another unknown.

7(Miscellaneous accessories for the trailer, sewage lines and small crap, $?

8(All sorts of little things I will undoubtedly forget, $?

Anyone think of other obvious thing I am missing?

I started with an empty trailer and it filled up quickly, when I started over with the full trailer I had to throw things away I had never used. I guess I'm not the right person to ask! I think the best way is to get it as you need it and if you don't use it again for a year get rid of it. Building up enough minimal savings and having a backup plan, like a deposit for an apartment if the trailer burned to the ground type stuff, not I will be able to live twice as good as I do now if I don't like this trailer so I never try was the hardest part for me. We got really close to broke and hungry but have never regretted our choice of going ahead. You may not be comfortable and you may get hungry but you will be happier and you will meet some great people willing to help. Looks like you have done whats necessary to start a project that never really gets finished. Good luck and best wishes.

Maybe have the bearings repacked and checked? I don't remember if you had mentioned somewhere that you may have already had this done? I've read so many different things lately that my head is ready to explode.
$200. to have the roof resealed seems quite reasonable? I dunno. What material will be used for the resealing?
Also, $200. to repair the dent in your TT sounds reasonable too.
Sounds like you have most of it covered, and whatever you don't will be figured out along the way? :p

The gentleman who will reseal my roof was recommended by one of our members, he is about 100 miles from here in Oklahoma. I will ask him to do the bearings too. He gave me the estimate on the dent from pictures I sent him. I was going to do it the first of this month but will wait until mid month and drag it up there.

He can check the fridge if I am unable to light it after cleaning the area around the orifice in the rear of the fridge.

if the propane system has not been used in a while you need to purge the air out of the lines.

1. make sure all propane appliances are off.
2. turn propane on.
3. light the largest burner on the stove, this might take awhile. after it lights let it burn for a minute or two then turn it off.
4. once the stove lights try the refer and heater again. do these one at a time starting with the heater. it might take a little while for them to light because there will still be air in the branch lines.
hope that helps. highdesertranger

Assuming you have a hot water heater and it is a Suburban brand, check the anode rod. Replace if needed (they're pretty cheap). And maybe flush out the water heater tank. Ask me how I know about that ?

If you will ever be hooked up to "city water", a water pressure regulator ($10) may be a good idea.

Best wishes!!

A few random thoughts . . .

A small toolkit for doing simple repairs yourself.  Look your trailer over a bit.  I've heard that a lot of RVs use screws with square heads, called, I think, Robertson.  If you find them, you need to have the right bits to turn them.

A GOOD air pressure tire gauge.  A lug wrench that fits the trailer lugs.  Can your truck jack be used to change the tire on the trailer?

Did your trailer come with a shore power cord?  Maybe you need a heavy 25 foot extension cord to supplement it on long runs?  Adapters to plug into a 30 amp outlet?

One of those little 3 light outlet testers?  A meter for checking for high or low voltage?

A potable water hose.

Boards to put under trailer tires to level the trailer?

Road service from one of those RV companies, Coachnet or Good Sam?
