I have a couple nice shots of a rattler. I had the camera out and the zoom on and the auto-shoot on because I was taking pics of the dog. When I realized the snake was there, I froze, then backed away, still snapping pics. My tintinitus is about the same pitch as its rattle, so I saw it raise its head before the rattle registered in my brain. Real nice shots. Impressive. But I would not have deliberately approached the snake to get them.
