As I start thinking of down-sizing and going on the road, just as I do every time I move, I ask myself, "How did I get so much stuff?!" Today, I was reminded of one of my favorite comedians doing one of my favorite routines. As you continue to weed out the excess, I hope this cheers you on your way:

Yeah, I've been hanging onto this quote for sometime (circa 2008):

"Houses are the places we keep all our stuff,
and if we didn't have so much stuff,
we could just wander around."
- George Carlin

I enjoy the time I spend traveling, but I love my home and I like my stuff.Makes my life much more comfortable. As they say"To Each His Own".

Hmm...wonder if we are on the cusp of a new wave of people realizing their competitive, stressful, stuff-filled lives are keeping them from having the life they really want ... and they find the answer in van dwelling? Or other alternatives to the 9 to 5 grind. Began watching a documentary on a homeless encampment in New Jersey, I think, that showed how cooperatively they were living. With the gap between the .1% and the 99.9% growing by the day, and the Middle Class shrinking, we will all be struggling to keep afloat. Read somewhere that people getting ready to retire have less than $3000 in assets and 3rd mortgages on their homes. Maybe Bernie is right & it will be Medicare, Food Stamps, & Well Fare for all!
OK, gotta move some stuff right now. Laters, VW

As BSB said, each to his own. Forgetting about the 1% having most of the money, even so you couldn't get 99% of the other 99% to part with their stuff with a case of dynamite.

Rule #1: people should be smart enough to not overspend their resources.

Clearly shows that most people never heard of Rule #1. Don't expect a Wave of Realization anytime soon. Not wishing to start a political discussion, but from an economic viewpoint, the $20-trillion national debt is gonna last forever and never get paid down, and will only get worse. Bernie's scheme would have made it get worse faster.

I think people here are smart enough to understand Rule #1, and act accordingly, given their own personal situations.

Another good quote is:
"Kipple [useless crap] drives out nonkipple."
- P.K. Dick's First Law
