You can still find used hearses with the same roominess - if you can get over the initial queasiness of the idea. I actually saw one made into a camper, altho someone here suggested that, because it seemed to have a little extra height, ir may have been an old-timey ambulance. That would be a bit easier on the nerves.
 
When I was a little kid, one of my early memories is being in this green 1962-ish Lincoln Continental 4-door my mom useto drive. It barely fit into the suburban garage and when I was 5, she misjudged distance and put the front end through the back wall of the garage. To this day my dad still makes fun of her for it. In fact if you look at the back wall of the garage, you can still faintly see the outline of the repair area...

A few days after this event, she pulled up in a brand new Datsun wagon... :)
