Amy Makes Stuff shows how she has modified her Honda Element. All of her stuff is well engineered and well executed, and some is very clever, like her moon roof filler. If nothing else, you can see just how much room you do or don't have in something the size of an Element.

Ha hA!! the popout window screen issue solved! lol (I'm still concerned about Texas heat at homebase melting the velcro glue on the plastic and falling off.)

But hey.. she did a great job. Really like the little ceiling add on at the end! ;)

Thanks for posting.

Nice job overall, on the part of Amy.

When I was in SoCal last winter, I met a guy with a van who did something similar to the popout screen thing. His went into the passenger side window of the van, also used velcro for holding, but used somewhat thicker, stiffer cardboard.

I recently built a similar thing, stiff cardboard rim layered around a plastic screen, and duct tape on the cardboard. However, I didn't want to stick a lot of velcro to the van door, so I used pieces of plastic tarp, glued around the edges of the cardboard, and which are held between the door and door frame when the door is closed. Then a piece of soft foam along bottom of the screen frame to seal that part from mosquito ingress.

I like how she states right off the bat what kind of trips she takes. Seems to me that so many newbies latch on to whatever they think is a cool-looking rig, without asking themselves exactly what kind of traveling they intend to do.
