Last night I had dinner at some friends. The lady had bought a small travel trailer & was talking about the "solar generator" the guy at an RV place wanted to sell her ("only $1,000") so she could run her her 13.5 BTU air conditioner.

I told her the term "solar generator" was a marketing term & you needed a generator or shore power to use an AC.... she didn't believe me.  I stopped arguing.

I did mention the suitcase solar kits (her husband didn't want to drill into the roof) & pointed out that we had a fair solar systems on both the Pleasure-Way class "B" (100w) & the class "C" (350w) and each cost way less than the "solar generator" the salesman wanted to sell her.

But what I talked about won't run an AC over night and the salesman said....

I guess I'm just venting a little....

I know the feeling, try and not be to smug about it if the subject comes up again and they find out you were right. I almost always get that not being smug about it, wrong...lol. Maybe have someone else tell them that info, like on a webpage or something. That or just let 'em learn the hard way.

Would be great to fake ignorance, and go in with a fill-in-the-blank form, say you got it online, ask them to sign off on it for warranty purposes:

This product _______ will power this _____ BTU aircon model ________ when off-grid for ______ hours. . .

In order to power this aircon unit for 14 hours a day in 90° weather, we recommend _______ watts of solar panels and ______ AH of deep cycle storage.

I have been faced with that before. I tried to explain only to be hit with "I think the salesman knows what he is talking about" I told them that they should take their RV down and have the salesman show them then. From what I understand, it didn't go well.

That's a fine idea!
