I wanted to convert my 1989 Plymouth Voyager into a stealth camper in such a way that I can easily convert it back to how it originally was if needed. One of the aspects was solar. I bought a flexable solar panel and charge controller from Amazon for $149.00.

Placement was important. It had to be able to gather enough sunlight to be effective, but yet not be suseptable to be stolen or damaged by weather, and be able to be removed at night when stealth camping. The only place I could do this is on the dashboard. Now, where to put the charge controller...... I hung it from the center dash vent with small flowerpot hooks.

The battery is on the floor between the seats. 1000 watt inverter is screwed to a piece of plywood along with my amateur radio. The plywood is standing up in back of the drivers seat.

What type of battery?

Welcome to the forum!

If need be, I have seen some people place the second battery under the hood. Of course it depends on what model you have whether there’s room or not. But that can answer the offgassing, stealth, and security questions in one step.

Welcome kd7one to the CRVL forums! To help you learn the ins and outs of these forums, this "Tips, Tricks and Rules" post lists some helpful information to get you started.

Most of our rules boil down to two simple over-riding principles: 1) What you post should provide good information (like your introductory post), and 2) Any response to someone else's post should make them feel glad they are part of this forum community.

We look forward to hearing more from you.

Hate to tell you this but you won't get much charging done on the dash with a flexible panel. Got a link for the panel, controller, and battery?
