Hi All,

Miss Tiny Traveler is preparing to start a NEW LIFE on the road.  No, I'm not the least bit terrified.  :s  I will car camp at RV parks.  My rig is a reliable, roomy, mid-sized sedan with low mileage and 22/33 MPG.  I will travel long distances.  I'm not handy, so I welcome suggestions on makes/models, retailers, and setups for items marked "???" below.

Thanks!

MTT

Welcome to the CRVL forums MissTinyTraveler! You have all of the stuff on your pre-approved list that you need to go camping right now! Take a few short and long trips to see if you'll really need all of the other items. Since you'll be staying in RV parks (they don't all allow tent camping so you may find public campgrounds more welcoming) you may find you're very comfortable with fewer things.

To help you learn the ins and outs of these forums, this "Tips & Tricks" post lists some helpful information to get you started. We look forward to hearing more from you.

Welcome to the CRVL forum   :)

While your car is with low mileage,  see if you can buy an extended Service/Repair plan on it. There are many companies that offer those.   There may not always be a "nice guy" near by with a Van or Truck full of tools
to fix your broken down car on the road side.   You may also consider some plan like AAA offers for towing so
you could be towed to a Garage for repairs.  Insurance may seem like extra cos until you have an event
that could put you out of the game all together,   then having insurance in place that will cover you will
seem cheap.

Remember,  if you are living in your car and it would have to be in a Garage for a few days/over a week end,  you'll need to have an alternate place to stay.   Another consideration you need give thought to.

There are a couple of links at the bottom of this post.  The lower one is a site full of links that can be helpful
for you either before you hit the road (for planning) or while out there to find your bearings and live more comfortably.   It's all free info you may want to become familiar with.

Hi MissTinyTraveler and welcome! Best of luck to you in your adventuring.

Welcome to the forum, MTT! I was wondering where all that stuff on the list was gonna fit in your sedan, so glad you're looking into a trailer in case you decide you need all that! What is your departure date?

please break that list down and ask in the appropriate sub forum. that's one big-o-list. oh yeah welcome. one more thing most RV parks will not let a car park at a site with electricity, they will want you in the tent area if they even have one. highdesertranger

Welcome!
if you're gonna do the car + trailer thing, i'd go with a Prius (I know, not that roomy) and a Runaway Camper, and sleep in the Runaway, not the car

Thanks, AbuelaLoca!  The trunk holds 3 musical instruments in their cases, a 2-piece luggage set, 2 beach bags, and a tent.  Since I'm....tiny, a pair of 12-gallon storage bins can be stacked behind each front seat.  A trunk full o' goodies goes on the back seat.  A cooler fits on the passenger seat floor.  T.O.D. is as fast as I can get ready.  ;-)

Will do.  It sounds like figuring out solar, etc will be important.  I'd rather avoid RV parks anyway.  Thanks!

Thanks, ArtW!  My rig is not convertible at this time plus, as you said, a Prius is too small for my needs.  I like TTT's, but are they durable enough for full-timers who travel a lot?
