I will be driving from San Francisco to Chicago (oct.) with my oldest son and his worldly possessions ( college) and asked if he could get his learners permit to help with the driving ( I'm good for 6 hours max and like to start early). Well he did and wanted to take the 2001 bubbletop out for a drive. Rolling down the narrow SF street an approaching car forced him to veer to the right where a tree branch caught my rack holding my only source of power my 240 watt panel. I do not like getting up
there but the thing was ready to drop off. Being only a block from home
drove back and gently removed said panel and rack about 75 pounds
He was in shock and I was mildly peeved. But my fault and I saw the opportunity to improve my initial install which has worked for 2 years and 5000 miles. The panel has a "Sunbolts" junction box adhered to the back took me a minute to figure out how the wiring was connected to the panel it uses those Peterson style quick connectors which snapped off (the only real damage). I removed the debris and see where i could hard solder the wire to the panel. Good idea?? add a fuse?? I will already be beefing up the hold downs and upgrading to Stainless, as rust was starting to rear it's ugly.
On humorous side note: I opened the refrigerator the other day and noticed it was spotless ran to my wife and said "Honey someone has broken into the house" Upon which she responded with horror and fright asking me how i knew. I replied someone broke into the house and cleaned the refrigerator. (true story)
Thanks for letting me bend your ear.
