Finally finished my quilt with the printed map of the United States for our bed. What a project. DH finding that printed map was great. Not only does it save a lot of work, but the dog is less likely to catch on a single large piece of fabric with his toenails than he is to catch on piecing seams or applique.

Put everything away and decided not to do anymore until I get more space to work in. Then, I found a desert print in a Quilting Stone Sedona we both loved and the silkiesy, drapiest cotton sateen for backing. Now, I have to see what kind of batting Walmart carries. The quilt shop had that new, stiffer cotton mat style that looks great as a wall hanging but doesn't drape very well. We prefer to sleep under the fluffy, polyester style that is whipped like cotton candy and drapes snuggly over ones body.

I have tried to post photos here a couple times. I keep getting a response that my file is too big. Haven't figured out how to compress or change them. DH has an older camera with less resolution. I'll try with that one.

Ok. Still trying. I managed to get the Whiz pic on for my Avatar, but I can't remember ow I did it.

Alright. Let's see if this goes. I didn't realize the last one would. If it does, this is the new desert fabric sitting on a lesscrumpled map quilt.

Another try. Wish I knew what I was doing when I accidentally attached the first one.

For some reason, the desert fabric is showing up a lot lighter than it actually is. I'm going to have to use some lighter coordinating fabric to brighten it up, probably picking up the tans, beiges and light sages from the pattern.

It' beautiful Jean. Hand stitching or machine? I've tried to quilt. Not one of my strong suits.

Dragonflyinthesky, the center panel is hand quilted. The borders are machine quilted. All machine pierced. I used to do all had work, but arthritis now limits the amount of time I can work by hand. Machine sure is faster.

Gfish, the jeans quilt will be great. Old denim is soft and pliable. It should drape well around you. Will you stitch the top or tie it?

I know someone who made a quilt ould of her brothers flannel shirts after he died. It ws her way of remembering him. Actually, back in the day, it was quite common to make memory quilts that used some of a deceased person's clothing.

Gfish, google instructions for tied quilts. You'll need your sewing machine for piecing, but denim can be a challenge to quilt stitch unless you have a heavy duty machine. Also, watch your batting. Some require stitching or tying to be done every 2 inches or they will squirm and lump. The woman who did the quilt with her brother's shirts used a sheet for backing and a lightweight woven blanket for batting. She was able to tie 6 inches apart and still get a good, useable product that stood up to the wash machine and dryer.
