This is addressed to all the folks who've been to Q in the winter before.

I've been city vandwelling for the last two years...with everything I could want or more importantly need five minutes away.

?  Name 3 things that aren't obvious ex: food/water/etc. - that you wouldn't be without if you were heading to Q for a month...

Thanks in advance. It seems like a lot of rookies, myself included...going to the RTR this year.

This trip I am stocking up on my favorite foods and snacks, Paper towels and cooking pots. A large propane bottle.  Biodegradable trash bags, nd extra containers of wipes,  paper towels and 2 large water jugs.  I will have my shower bag ready, (Towels, soaps, razor and clothes) as well as a 3 month supply of my medications.  Laundry soaps and dryer sheets as well as a couple rolls of quarters in the laundry sack.  I have a mat for outside my door to lay on the ground.  Extra buckets and crates to build a stand for the stove.  I might just buy a stove table set up at the tents in Q

I have my desert chair for sitting in under a tree.  :D

Sunscreen, sun glasses, moisturizing lotion, and hat to deal with the sun, wind and dryness. Layers of bedding, blankets and a stocking hat to deal with the cold, colder, coldest nights. Passport to take an excursion into Los Algodones, MX.

A little extra food or drinks to share. Some of the best times we had last year were had when someone would be walking by at meal time or beer thirty and we'd invite them over for a chat and a bite to eat.

This is not Q specific, but I have a couple of simple home made solutions that I use regularly that might be of interest to others.

These are both made using simple para cord.

First, I have an over the shoulder drink holder, which basically consists of a loop, with 3 slip knot loops in it to slide around the tops of either water or soda bottles. This makes it easy to carry up to 3 bottles of your favorite beverage hands free.

In a similar vein, I use para cord to make shoulder straps for up to 4 of those cloth grocery bags which are available.  I can use this for a hands free method of carrying things either on foot or on my bike.  Then can all be put into a single bag when not in use, and weigh practically nothing.

Also using para cord, I make a flat, 2" x 8" shoulder pad which can be slipped over each cord to prevent them from digging in.  I have made these by both weaving them, and also by braiding them.  Either way works fine.

I don't carry a backpack, but this featherweight easily expandable solution seems to work really well for me.  I use this system for everything from groceries to roaming flea markets and swap meets.

As for supplies, whenever I'm heading to an unknown area, I stock up with at least a months worth of supplies before I head out...  Since I always try to be prepared for anything that life or mother nature might throw at me, my supplies aren't usually area specific.

If you want or need anything you intend to buy new get it before you go to the Q. Gas, propane is reasonable there as are the yard sale type stuff. Food and liquor is expensive and very little selection so most folks team up and drive 45 minutes to Parker to the Walmart to stock up. If your vehicle needs anything get it done before heading out. Things like solar, unless you have it dialed in, wait and let the folks at the RTR help. They've done it dozens of times and can give you the best advice on what you need and the best place to get it. They have also been known to pitch in and help on the install! Hope this was helpful.
