I've played for years at several different clubs in my area. Love the game. Poker clubs are becoming a popular alternative to casinos. While a casino will take a "rake" most poker clubs charge a fee at the door and you can play all night.

A lot of these clubs run nightly tournaments that run well into the hours of 2-3 even 4 a.m. and its not unusual for a few of the 'grinders' to sleep in their car, as they tend to do a lot of traveling from town to town, are too tired to drive home, and are also looking to save money. I've spent more than a few nights in the back of my SUV in these parking lots and never had a problem. If anyone asks, just tell them you just got into town and was planning on playing when the place opens.

If you're up for it, its just one more spot to add to the toolbox of places you can spend a night or two. Also a fun hobby, and if you're good you can make a little money on the road doing it. Please gamble responsibly though.

The primary reason poker clubs don't take a percentage of the pot is because that's illegal in most states where poker is legal. And because it's traditionally illegal, it's also passe.

I was in a monthly poker game for many years. I probably lost money overall but enjoyed playing. I also played a lot of roulette in Las Vegas, and stopped while I was ahead. But I believe it someone plays long enough, they will eventually lose. That's exactly why casinos can afford big extravagant buildings.

Anyhow, interesting suggestion on a place to stay.
