Women Only Peeing myself

I dunno if anyone saw my post on the other forum about having a coughing fit and peeing myself.

I've never even had kids so I don't get it. 

I've been doing kegels, but I read that you have to do, like, hundreds of them.

Has anyone cured themselves of stress incontinence who could give me some encouragement?

Sis is getting things tacked up. Nothing else worked. She never had kids either. I think getting older play into it more than anything.

There are a number of causes for that condition other than weak muscle from child bearing..One of those conditions can be fibroids in the lower uterus area, those can cause excess pressure on the bladder. Sometimes it is simply gravity at work and that definitely can be exerbated by obesity which can cause a lot of pressure on the bladder as well as weakening of the core muscles causing sagging in the pelvic areas. 

There are gynecologist who have a specialty in urology. If this condition is worrying you I suggest you consult such a person for a workup. They will run a continence stress test, blood test, and likely an ultrasoud or X-ray if fibroids or possibly cancer are suspected. this type of gyn will also determine if surgery is appropriate.

If you are concerned about it in a public gathering setting there are some tampons marketed which can be used to help stop leakage.

I think you're right. Post-menopausal is listed as a risk factor. Getting old sucks.

Thanks for the info. I just downloaded a book on incontinence that claims doing kegels and other physical therapies can take 8 to 12 weeks. 

I'll try that first and if I don't see improvement, I'll head to the doctor.

I remember years ago, working as a nurses aide in our local hospital, women coming in for what was called a “pelvic lift”, to kind of lift and tighten things up internally after childbearing was over.

My sister takes a medication that helps with bladder control, and I also think it is important to keep weight under control to alleviate stress on your bladder.

For me, I watch my liquid intake when I am going to be away from my personal toilet(s), and try go to the bathroom as soon as I feel the slightest urge. 

So as not to have accidents.   :s

normal truly for all. we laugh, we cough, we sneeze, we hold it in longer than required and we DO anything that can send it down the chute when we don't want it, then we clench to hope it isn't worse HA

almost 60 in about 6 months so I have been doing this for say, last 5 years or so, and it sucks rocks.....I ain't doing surgery or whatever and all that jazz 'for any fix' but I can say I do sometimes wear just a panty liner 'just in cause' but I also bought a hell of alot of extra underwear panties for change outs One can never have enough change outs!

I don't do kegel or whatever, I am just me and it is what it is LOL

Update: I have been reading that book I downloaded, called The Bathroom Key. It covers stress incontinence and also urge incontinence…people who feel the urge to pee so suddenly and forcefully that they don’t always make it to the bathroom on time.

The book is chock full of information! I have been doing kegels pretty regularly, and I bought a gizmo that they recommended, called the Kegel Master. It gives resistance so you have something to squeeze against. It goes as high as 8 lbs of resistance.

Well, the first time I used it, I put it on the lowest setting, and it wouldn’t open. I put it on the 2nd lowest setting and it wouldn’t open. I had to use the 3rd lowest setting in order for it to open up so I could use my muscles to close it! So, I had built up strength just doing regular kegels.

Anyway, I am not ready to say I am dry as a bone, but I sneeze and cough everyday, and I am quite pleased with my progress. It’s also inspired me to keep all my other muscles in shape.

If anyone knows of any “routines” ‘they can recommend for general body conditioning, feel free to share. I do have 3 and 5 lb weights at home, so I can incorporate those eventually, when I get back.

Oh, and I wanted to add a disheartening statistic that they mention in the book. The number 1 cause of women being put in nursing homes is incontinence. Their family just gets sick of smelling pee and having to deal with the problem. Terrible!

A tip about the book: the authors are a physical therapist who works with incontinence patients and one of her former patients. So, in the beginning, they sort of imply that you really can’t do this without seeing a physical therapist and using their electrodes and whatnot. But further in, they admit that the problem is simply that some women aren’t contracting the right muscle…and 8 weeks of squeezing your abdominal muscle isn’t going to give you the same bennies as squeezing your PC muscle. But then they go on to show you three ways you can make sure you’re squeezing the right muscle.

But, yeah, you can totally do this on your own. Don’t let the beginning of the book turn you off.

I went to the doctor for the same issues and she advised me that it was from aging and it was called a falling bladder. She also said it can come from having had kids as well. She suggested I do kegels. And yes I've heard you can go get it packed up but I haven't actually checked into that. Good luck getting it solved. I wish you the best.

A cystocele.  I have the same issue after delivering four kids and being in my 60s.  Kegels did not help unfortunately.  I really don't want to the get surgery done unless it's absolutely necessary so I wear a pessary to hold things up.  And a pad for leaks.

I started having leakage/urgency incontinence issues in my 20s. Also woke up at all hours to pee.Thought I had a physical or hormonal problem. I switched to intermittent fasting with 6 hour eating periods, and the incontinence VANISHED within 2 days. It was like magic. Doesn't matter what I eat, only when, and within 2 weeks it had also fixed a number of other problems. I was worried is have problems if I didn't eat, but it has no drawbacks that I've detected, except for having a lot of energy and a sex drive that increased to an annoying degree. I don't know that it would help everyone, but it's worth a shot if you're able to do it safely.

Yes, there is a pill you can take. I peed myself for over a decade, before I moved here and got a new doctor. I never knew there was a pill for it. Thought it required surgery. Starts working within a couple days, IIRC. My prescription is called Oxybutynin ER 5MG

I looked it up. Says side effects can be dry mouth and eyes, which I have... but that could be from some other med I take. Or from my diabetes.

It costs a lot, so people are better to try oxybutynin (which Medicare seems to cover).

I have had the problem of urge incontinence since my had every thing removed due to cancer in 2014. Doctor said it is partly due to loss of estrogen. Estrogen helps to keep the ureter strong, without it it weakens making it hard to hold in. I have never had children. I asked him about the pelvic floor and he said it was strong. I went from panty liners to poise #3. Drinking diet Pepsi makes it worse but I can't give it up but did cut back.

I am friends with a woman nomadic who had urge incontinence. She was able to get it under control by having a small device implanted that sends signals to the bladder. That device is most often used to control the spincter muscles to prevent too frequent opening of it. But it can do the same for frequent urge to urinate. You should consult a specialist GYN who also handles urology. My woman specialist in those combined fields was from the Virginia Mason clinic in Seattle. Fortunately I just needed a bladder sling which has been very successful over the last 7 years. That was done at age 65 not long after I had a complete hysterectomy for uterine cancer.

There are also special tampons that can help urinary incontinence. But you would find them more comfortable to use if you also use some vaginal only estrogen cream. One of those things to talk to a doctor about then if your budget requires that you can purchase a year's supply over the counter in Mexico.
