Thanks Hepcat. I finally feel like I have some kind of chance. The doc that put it back together the first time made a mess of it and a year and a half later it wasn't healed and I was in more and more pain. Finally the metal inside my leg broke and I can't imagine how that happened. It was about a half inch thick. Anyway it's a huge difference and I'm stumbling around with a walker but there is now a light at the end of the tunnel! I'm so freaking happy. I feel I got my life back.

Awesome. I saw the x-ray you posted before your surgery. Wow. So it's good to hear you came through on the other side and feeling optimistic!

And thanks for the photo out of your window... what a gorgeous place!

Kentucky is beautiful but has the hot summers and cold winters. I'm thinking when I can get around a bit better and can leave the area I'll come back for spring and fall only. I have tentative plans for Baja the month of February.

There are absolutely some beautiful places in Baja. I've enjoyed a lobster or two in Rosarito over the years.

Any must go places you'd like to mention?

:) I'm glad you are both Up on your Feet and Out and About :)
KY is a beautiful state.  I lived in Cloverport KY up on the Ohio for 2yrs.  I have 8 Grandkids in Breckenridge county.

Thanks Jewellann. I can't tell u how excited I am to be getting outta this mess. Hope to meet you on the road one day when we are both out and about. Would be great to have a little gathering of newbie women that have been talking on here trying to break free. I have no plans written in stone except Baja for a month in February. Do you know when you intend to break free?

Sadly, it's been 25 years since I've been in Baja...  even if I could remember the names of the places or where they are, they'd likely not be there any more.

Kentucky Holler House Antiques & Collectables on Hiway 60 in Garfield KY just east of Hardinsburg KY.  It's a very old 2 story log cabin with many additions.  Heated by a big wood stove and has a big side porch.  Sylvia is a friend and a really neat lady.  If anyone stops by be sure and tell her Jewellann sez HEY YOU   :D

If going E to W on 60 just before Garfield on the R. there is a huge apple orchard and store....... then a big surplus store on a hillside on the L. just down the road.  Family run and good prices,  need to watch best by dates on food items....I often purchase and use out of date items.....some folks may be more concerned  than I am....just saying.

In S KY there is Manmoth Caves National Park, a very pretty area.  On the KY/TN/VA border there is the Cumberland Gap National Historical Park,  this the  Cumberland Gap where many folks crossed the mountains to head west on horseback and in wagons, also a very pretty area.

In Elizabeth Town Ky there is Peddlers Mall and also a big Military Surplus Store.  Fort Knox is in that area.

I haven't been back in 5yrs so my info is current for that time.

Nice! And even nicer that you got out. :)

I too would like to meet up with folks from here.  When plans are so unsettled  or conflicting with others plans it may be easier to get together a few at a time.  I'm a few miles from Ft Rucker AL   Just 50 or so miles from SW GA and 20 miles N from the Fla line. crossing over just S. of Hartford Al or on 231south in Dothan AL

I would so like to be able to say on such and such date the Q and I are gettin' the Hell Outta Dodge.   To add to the list of roadblocks I've posted in my Captains Log there are developing health care issues with my Mom and also oldest & best friend.  Mom's may resolve it's self and she'll be home next week.  My friend no later than 8-15-17 will be in Birmingham getting 2 new heart valves and maybe a pacemaker, the 4th time he's been "cracked open" in his words.

Hopefully sometime in June I'll be able to make it to MO.  My SD trip is a maybe for early fall.

I still need to visit my  94yr old Aunt in TX.  She has a full time caregiver now which is big relief. Aunt Mary sez she is living til 110yrs  :) She has out lived all blood relatives of three generations so far and 4 husbands.  I am the 1st wife of her oldest nephew and we've been friends since 1972.

She's a real go getter.  Did hair until she was 70 then "retired" and taught Sunday School and vacation bible school, until she had to stop when the toddlers "hurt her bones" she said while she rocked them in a rocking chair.  Also while "retired" she volunteered at a Help Center in Temple TX,  made sure no neighbor did without, and purchased the sewing materials and made dresses for homeless little girls in her town.

Someone, not here on CRVL, said to me in a very rude way a few weeks ago  That maybe I should stay put, all things considered it might not be good for me to travel alone and have no home.  My immediate response was "Bite Me".......That Is ME Being Nice/er   :D

Sorry to hijack your thread!

Your Aunt sounds like a hoot and you're lucky to still have her.

It's taken me a long time to get going also as it seems one thing after another keeps getting in my way. I'm really getting closer now finally and plan to go before summers out.

I got all my staples out Thursday and they seemed to have left one. I discovered it last night and this morning had my nieces hubby remove it with what he had.... a fishing plier kinda tool. At least it's out. I wasn't about to go back home to get a sanitary wire cutter when I can be out at a lake camping. I had over a hundred staples so missing one isn't too bad I guess.

High jack my thread? Go for it!

I can hear the conversation at the campsite now, Cammalu...  "Barkeep, bring me a pair of needle-nosed pliers to get the bullet out, and a shot o' red-eye... in a dirty glass!"

<grin>

Lol. That's about it. Good one. Hey Hepcat. Is it a long way down on one of those bikes? I used to ride all the time but arthritis set in my knees and I just couldn't get my knee up high enough to pedal. I'd love to be able to ride again but if sitting on the ground almost on a bike I'm not getting back up easily.
