Here's an excellent Editorial in the New York Times by writer Jessica Bruder (Nomadland) about "The Knock"

Every OTR truck driver with a sleeper has dealt with 'the knock' as a part of life on the road. Sometimes it's hookers, sometimes it's beggars, sometimes it's cops, sometimes it's the vendor you will be delivering to the next day.

Truck drivers usually do not sheepishly respond (who is it?) or hope the interloper will leave if they don't answer. We pop open the pop-out vent above the bunk as loudly as we can and yell out: What the hell do you want?!?!? They cant see us, but they can hear us! They have no idea what or who they are dealing with, or even what type of response we might provide. 'The Knock' is an intrusion and should be treated that way.

That tends to help instill hesitation in the person, often they will wander off, and if it IS a cop, they will say something like 'Police, you can't park here' or 'Security, you are blocking a driveway' or whatever.

Life on the road!
