Hi,

I've always been into tiny living, efficiency, minimalism and simplicity. Although I'm attracted to the tiny house movement, it seems to require land (money) to reside on as opposed to the stealth concept of vehicle living, which when done right seems just as comfortable and downright ideal...just a few kinks to work out before going for it completely here:

Is there a way to soundproof a vehicle completely? Is there a specific insulation that can achieve this aim? My primary interest is in saving money while having independence and my alleged snoring could destroy my stealth. Also I'm not wanting outside noises to disrupt my sleep.

Just how difficult is it to diy all essentials of house living within a vehicle? I've got no experience in any trade and yet feel if given proper explanation and direction, I can do most diy. Any links here to provide step by step implementations?

Is a turbo diesel sprinter the best combination of stealth, mpg and interior space? Or a sprinter chassis with box? Any other vehicles exist that can get better mpg, allow 6' height or better interior and have stealth capability?

I've been looking into this for about the last two months or so pretty extensively but since I've never actually lived in a vehicle my guess is that I wouldn't know which amenities are most important and which ones I can use substitutions for and the like.

Thanks!
TM

Hi Thanosman! Welcome to the CRVL forums! To help you learn the ins and outs of these forums, this "Tips & Tricks" post lists some helpful information to get you started.

It's definitely possible to sound proof your van.
I have a friend that does voice-overs. You've heard her voice on TV commercials, radio commercials, on audio books and video games. She full timed for a couple of years in a class C. She had a custom, soundproof studio built in her moho.

I know she was worried about the sound quality and outside interference in the beginning. but it worked just fine.

She's sold the moho and is downsizing to a van. Her plan, at this time, is to build a studio in a cargo trailer.

We look forward to hearing more from you.

Thanks for the quick reply Cindy!

So it sounds like it's possible to soundproof a vehicle but I'm still not sure how it's done...can you ask her specifically how to do it or pass on her info so I can ask her myself?

Thanks!

I owned a Floorcovering store in Mpls. for twenty or so years and I also knew alot of rock bands.
A guy from a band asked me how to soundproof a studio in his basement and we used 6lb. rebond carpet pad - like eight layers on the walls.
Could barely hear his band after that.
Don't know how that would work in a vehicle. It cannot get wet.
This also would be insulation as that pad has cells of air in it. Maybe put 6'' high of insulation sheets on bottom then use pad.
Just a thought.
