Hello everybody...my name is Dewey and I've gotta admit, I found this site years ago...but never registered until just now.  I just used my initials + zip code so that maybe I can remember my user name...HA...(fat chance of me remembering something like that)!  Close to 10 yrs. ago, I decided to buy an old school bus and convert it for full-timing.  Well, after all was said and done, my wife decided that lifestyle was not for her, so I've had a large Yard Ornament Storage Building Bus ever since.  Oh, well...such is life!  You know what they say about the best laid plans of mice and men.  Anyway, the wife and I are separated now and the itch to travel is flaring up again like poison ivy, doncha know...hahaha...I just thought I'd drop in and say "Howdy"...I hope everybody is having a wonderfully blessed day.  Y'all stay safe out there!  ...dewey

akrvbob: just wanted to let you know that I lived in King Salmon, AK for a year when I was in the Air Force back in the early 70's...I was just AMAZED at the beauty of Alaska!!!

Welcome to the CRVL forums Dewey! What's next for you? Any plans to get the school bus out and running or will you be going a different route this time around? Keep us updated!

To help you learn the ins and outs of these forums, this "Tips & Tricks" post lists some helpful information to get you started. We look forward to hearing more from you.

Yes, I've seriously entertained the thought of resurrecting the bus...but it only gets 7 mpg, so I'm not sure exactly what I'm gonna do for real. But at the moment, I'm staying with my 80 y.o. aunt who needs help with her everyday routines...so it may be a while yet...but I'm just full of patience. I'm 63 and retired, and hopefully, someday, I'll hit the road 'a'running and maybe get to meet some of you guys! If anyone is interested, I'm on Facebook at https://www.facebook.com/dewey.brown.96
Stop by and give me a friend request...I hang out on the computer A LOT! :-> Looking forward to interacting with y'all!!!

Welcome to the CRVL Forum :)

Ya know,  while you're looking after your old folks you'll have some time to clean up and tinker with your Bus
and read the Forum to gain knowledge and tips as to go about hitting the road.   This can be your "Oasis"
to visit each day.

One of the things you can consider is taking trips on Google Maps to see the road ahead.  If you have broadband  and open Google Maps in the area you are wanting to visit,  just drag and drop the orange "peg-man" on the roads that turn blue and it will be just like you are driving down the street.

All the areas in Blue you can drop the "Peg-Man" and be there virtually.

I'd invite you to check out the lower link below and try out some of the Travel Planer's and Free Campground sites with travel planning features.   You can go places even when you are stuck at home for the meanwhile.
Keep yourself a note book Travel Planner wishlist like a lot of people do.  Work on your rig in daylight and good weather and in the evenings and long winter hours take virtual trips across the country.

All the best looking after your old folks !   I think it's a good thing you're doing.

That's awesome,I did'nt know you could do that on google maps

Welcome Dewey, glad you joined us. All the best.

Glad you like it !   It's been around for some while now.  Every now and then you'll see a Google Mapping Car on the road.  They look like this.

I'm surprised Google doesn't make the drivers wear orange jumpsuits and an orange baseball hat to look
like "Peg Man".  It would be great PR for them.   But those I've seen driving on the road don't.

The camera on the roof can be lowered (or tilted back)  Kinda like a submarine's periscope.

These Cars have been roaming America's highways for several years photo mapping the main roads and a lot of the secondary.  I don't think that they do the private drives.

You can view other Countries roads too if you like.   See Paris while sittin at the Farm.   :)

The best part is unlimited mpg , and....no texting drivers slamming into you !

Welcome to CRVL, too bad you're still tied down by familial obligations, but you could maybe test different vehicles 'driveway surfing' in your Aunt's driveway, see if maybe a regular full size van fits your needs
