Hi guys.  I'm new to all this, I mean posting.   About 40 years ago my boyfriend and I sold everything and bought a 24 passenger school bus, which we built out.  We then traveled across country.  That was my first real taste of traveling and I loved it.  We didn't boondock back then and there was no You Tube to help us along.  Now single and retired I'm ready to start again. Have been watching many channels for the last year now and trying to find the best rv for me.  I'm trying not to make too many mistakes, and doing a lot of research.  Hoping to get some help from the forum.  Your ideas and knowledge will help me on my quest.  I bought a 2016 chevy colorado and thinking of a travel trailer as my home. Still doing research on that.  Any ideas, greatly appreciated

Welcome! First figure out how much you can tow. There should be info in your owner's manual, or you can find the info online based on a number of factors. Once you know how much weight you can tow, you can start looking at which TTs you can haul.

Hi seniorshuffle15322! We're from PA and about 40 years ago we traveled around the country too. It was just for a year but we had a blast and met a lot of great people but one of the most memorable times was camping at Big Bend with a couple traveling in a school bus. Your name wouldn't be Shelly by any chance? :- ).

We're on our second time around, traveling in a small class C and it's just as much fun now. Only thing is we never thought that we would get this old! :-D

Welcome, seniorshuffle15332!

If I recall correctly, the Colorado is a mid-sized truck? So as Snow Gypsy recommended you'll want to find out your towing capacity and max tongue weight (assuming your truck has a tow hitch already). You'll also want to have a 7-pin connector and a brake controller for the trailer. My 2014 GMC Sierra 1500 came with the brake controller built in as well as both 4-pin and 7-pin connections at the hitch. Not sure about your model. Mine's comparable to the Chevy Silverado 1500.

Anyway, once you know what you can tow and that your truck is ready for it, you can choose a Travel Trailer that has what you need. My family is partial to Jayco and I have a Jay Flight SLX 212QBW, which is about the minimum I thought I could live in.

Which part of PA are you from? I was born in Bethlehem and grew up in Nazareth. (People look at me funny when I say that.)
