Hi everyone,

I am in the process of moving into a slide in camper in the back of my truck. I just have a couple more things to tidy up, but should begin within the next couple days and I was wondering if anyone out there is living in an rv/camper in/around Eugene, Oregon? I have a job in town, so I will be needing to park at night in town and I wanted to know if there are any places here to avoid and places that are preferred overnight parking spots. I'd like to have as many places as possible as to not frequent any one place too often.

Thank you in advance for any advice you can give

Welcome to the CRVL forums othatoneguyo! I think we have some members who live around Eugene. Hopefully they chime in with some ideas for you!

To help you learn the ins and outs of these forums, this "Tips & Tricks" post lists some helpful information to get you started. We look forward to hearing more from you.

Welcome Aboard the good ship CRVL one guy!

Welcome? Do you know about the websites allstays, and free campgrounds.net? They have maps with extensive free parking locations, where others that are doing the same as us have been.

I am doing the same as you in a truck, heading out in three weeks, will be working for a few months before going west. I am going to park at Walmart, another box store that allows it, and state forest land.

If I was in a bigger area I would use pilot and loves truck stops, they are suprisingly nice. We fit right in, never been bothered, get coffee in am, get to look at all the gadgets they have for mobile living and no one cares that u are there.

In a pinch, motel parking lots pulling in late at night has worked but nervous about getting caught there.

Wishing u good fortune on your journey.

Thanks for the tips. I haven't checked out allstays. I have looked at freecampsites.net, but all they list in town is Valley River Center which I already knew of.

Greetings and Welcome!

I would walk into the police station, tell them that you are new in town and need a free place to park until you can get a place. Describe your rig, even if vaguely, because a truck with a camper is a little different type of animal to find parking spots for...

Good Luck & Best Wishes!

I am not sure how many people read the truck subforum, you could put Eugene Oregon overnight and put it in the subforum, can't remember what it is called, maybe overnights? It is six from the bottom.  More people would know u are looking for :)

Funny you mention Eugene. I was working on the shutdown of the Hynix Wafer Fab there a few years back and on the little road to the fab, there was a travel trailer parked along a little turnout. It appears the city placed a porta potti there. Perhaps that would be a good place. I've heard that Eugene is pretty progressive towards this sort of thing.

Thank you for the replies!

I would call the police station, but the city passed a city wide law that makes it illegal to camp  within the city limits (tent/vehicle) even though I see it here and there, so I'm not sure if they would be any help.

I will try the overnight parking section of this site to see if anyone has any personal experiences.

Thank you and keep letting me know if there are more ideas.

Yeah--they "passed a law" -- sure--lol -- I live in the area, and see it ALL the time. There are some obvious 'lifers' in certain places. (the kind of rig you would be surprised if it ran, with stuff piled all around/on it and someone/s obviously living in it.) I know many neighborhoods that have lots of curbside dwellers, but watch your areas- as some are Quite sketchy.. aka theft/assault/drugs in abundance. Peeling paint, Graffiti, and trash are your quick giveaways.
