Hello everyone :)

I'm looking into driving down to Yuma and then go over the boarder for dental work. I have never been south before and hope there are people in the area that will welcome me. Thinking May or June of this year maybe sooner. It's a 30 hour straight drive from where I am, so it will take a few days to get there. I have never driven over the canadian u.s. boarder before. Can I take food and my home made tinctures, salves and stuff like that? Do I have to say I am going to Mexico or should I just say Yuma?

Welcome shivandra to the CRVL forums! To help you learn the ins and outs of these forums, this "Tips & Tricks" post lists some helpful information to get you started. We look forward to hearing more from you. highdesertranger

Some people will welcomel you, and others not so much. If we are in your travel path, you're more than welcome for a nights rest and a decent dinner if we know when you'll be by. Pretty much everything you have to in life is on your own, sometimes(many times) people are more than willing to help. Best of luck and keep your travel itinerary posted here so we can help.

I would check the Border Patrols list of banned items. I don't carry any food across as the rules seem to change at someones whim. If you have home made remedies be prepared to toss them.

May and June will be hot as the devil in the Yuma area, there probably won't be many from this group in the area. Unless they live there. As Bryan wrote, let the forum know if you need any help or we can be of assistance.

No firearms or ammo of any sort into Mexico, they don't play when it comes to banned items. Crossing into the US just roll your window down, give one word answers and be honest on your declaration sheet. And remove your sunglasses.

It won't matter if you tell them Yuma or Mexico, just have your passport ready and have a safe trip.

May is warm...in the 90's, June is getting into 100's. Yuma is typically one of the hotter areas other than Lake Havasu. If you can travel in April or early, would be best down here in Arizona. (((make sure your vehicle is road worthy; good battery, tires, belts, hoses, radiator, etc...the southwest US takes a beating on those items in the heat...)))

Take off sunglasses and make eye contact.

I live outside of Phoenix Arizona (3 hours east of Yuma)...let me know if you have any questions!

Welcome!

I'm sure there is an easy Google search to find what can and cannot go each way at the Canadian/US border. The official website should be the best way to be sure the info is up to date.

In several articles and forum threads over the years, Bob is a big fan of parking and walking across the border to Mexico to get dental, medical and eye care. Here is one link to a big article on doing that with photos and even a video:

Hope this is helpful.
