Hello!

Let me first of all give thanks to Karen to referring me to this website. I had experience with RV.net. I called all of them "old" and living off "pension." My idea was to be a transient worker, living FT out of an RV. Finding a city to work in and live in the city for a year. Work at the city and work another year. It's kinda elaborate but it it's a start. I've decided on the class I'm looking for, Class C. 22ft. Not too big, not too small. Enough living space for a bachelor. The idea took a lot of heat from them. I was honestly surprised. I thought the "RVers" where like boaters, carefree and relaxed. Anyways, my name is Jacob. I'm working towards purchasing my first MH. Traveling Cross Country and working in different cities.

Best Regards,

Jake

Hey Again,

I'm 19, just graduated High School. I'm a real good guy, I don't cuss or anything like that. I'm an envious road warrior. I've owned my first car before, experienced the pain/pleasure of making insurance payments, paying for gas and watching it being towed away after making a stupid decision. I've experienced a lot recently and I can talk to you about anything. I plan to contribute this forum in an meaningful and knowledgeable way. I will not be a push-over or anything of the nature, crabby or dissident. I will give you an honest opinion and solely that. I look forward to sharing experiences with you all.

Best Regards,

Jake

Hi Jake - I don't know what was up with those guys. They're usually not that bad. Anyway lots of good guys over here. Welcome to the forum!
Hi Jake, welcome...maybe they got irritated by you telling them they were old and pensioners....LOL....there are plenty of old pensioners here too but we have pretty thick skins...
C'mon in a sit a spell....we have a bunch of youngsters too....
Bri

Welcome Jake. I was just your age yesterday and excited about exploring and living and experiencing life in different places. You have good reference materials here and these old geezers are great. Just don't talk so fast and they'll keep up with ya.

hi jake. Darrell here. Glad you came here and there are a lot of caring, knowledgeable folks here. You have a good idea with the small class C but one of those B-class' might be a practical way to go too, for awhile. Darrell.
PS. interesting idea you have for working awhile and then traveling elsewhere.
Hey,

My first taste to see what the correct size I was looking for was on Wednesday. We went to CW to check out the Class C's Class B's and Conversion Vans. We went from smallest to largest, The conversion van is too small. I'm 5'11. I was rubbing heads with the cielieing. Class B's provided inadequate living space but we were headed in the right direction. I went inside a Chateau 22' Class C formerly owned by a General, believe it or not and I was like, "This is perfect size." I'm planning to have someone go with me, I haven't decided who it's going to be, but It's has to be someone I can live with, I mean were going to be on the road 16-18hrs per day, right? I've applied to hotels around my house to get experience I can use to apply elsewhere. I've also applied to car dealerships as well, anything that is nationally dispersed. I'm shooting for a 22-24ft Class C within 20k. Plan to make payments, shooting for 150-200 monthly. I recently received a hit today from a hotel chain and a dealership. I'm going to wait until they offer the position and determine hours/wages/salary etc.. This will give some saving money I can put down for the rig.

Best Regards,

Jake

Jake, I am at the other end of the age group; going on 71. Am remodeling an old shell overcab pickup camper; putting in extra insulation and doing a little remodeling with the storage situation. Am going to start out cross country in about 2 weeks to interview relatives I have never met for a book I am writing. Also hoping to see some new sites in the mid-west and west. Have lived in at least 20 states and Canada in my life time. I would like to get a Dodge Sprinter to convert or a Class B.
Hope you will enjoy your travels as much as I think I will enjoy mine.
Mema Motor Mouth
Hey Jake, welcome to the forum. Glad to have ya!

Hey,

Thank you for the welcoming party! I appreciate not walking into a grenade like the last forum. Good karma for all of you.

Who should I be looking for as far as a partner for the Cross-country trip/transient lifestyle? I'm going to prefer a female partner but a I'm closer with my best friends. Any advice to look for in a person who is in it for long haul would be great!

Best Regards,

Jake

Hey Jake:

One of the old (soon-to-be) pensioners who hangs out at RV.net (occasionally) here.

We have an older high top Class B (1995). I'm 6' tall and have about a foot of headroom. It just depends on what model you look at.

Bs have the advantage of being less obvious than a C, and are easier to manuever in small parking lots, and the like. A lot of places which have parking restrictions on 'RVs' don't enforce them on Bs, because they take up no more space than a regular van. Gas mileage is generally a bit better than a C.

DW and I are not 'campers'. We travel, and like to go remote places where larger units can't access. Having had other units, we appreciate the advantages of the B, which fit our lifestyle.

Photos of our B below, for comparison purposes (link to interior photos on top right).

http://bentfalcon.wordpress.com/gyrfalcon/

Hi Jake and welcome, you are in the right place!!
While Class C is very comfortable, it has a big problem with trying to camp in it while living in town, Most cities make it illegal to camp on city streets in an RV. If they catch you they will chase you off. Chances are most of the restaurants and car dealers are going to be in towns. You may want to reconsider living in a high top van since it is fairly easy to live in a town in one of those. Bob
Hey Jake, good to hear from another young whipper snapper out there! (I'm 22 myself)

This is a great place, with a lot of good people and sound advice.

Hey Jake, welcome to the forum and the best of luck.

Not sure why Jake but my experience @ the formerly mentioned website was very similar to yours and I have 5 grandsons. I was asking questions about getting my hi-top van licensed as an RV in South Dakota and they acted like I was trying to do something devious. I even live in SD and it was listed in my personal info.
Anyway you are welcome here and Bob's advise about a hi-top van is sound. I work out of my van and it is easy to find a place to park it. Last night I stayed in a Super 8 parking lot without issues. Good Luck.

gus

Personally, I gave up on rv.net more because of the poor user interface and bloated pages that were slow to load than the people there, but even as the owner of a class A motorhome I seem to have more in common with the people here.

Hi Jake & Welcome.
