Hi, just joined tonight. Love watching Bob,s video,s! I recently retired at the ripe old age of 60! Bought myself a 22ft class c for my retirement present. Curious about the rtr event in Quartzsite, thinking about coming. I have a jeep "toad" that I haven't towed yet.nervous about towing it down there in January. My question is-- if I don't bring jeep, will I be able to get around town with class c and mountain bike? Thanks, rickr

Welcome rickr to the CRVL forums! To help you learn the ins and outs of these forums, this "Tips & Tricks" post lists some helpful information to get you started. We look forward to hearing more from you. for sure come to RTR. I would try to bring the Jeep, many roads to explore, plus it makes it easy peasy to run to town. the bike is also doable. highdesertranger

Welcome, Rick!

How exciting to get your rig along with retirement. I'll echo what everyone who has been to an RTR will tell you -- definitely go if you can.

You'll meet lots of great folks, learn a lot, and experience boondocking in the desert (if you have not done that before). It is about 5-6 miles to town on mostly desert "gravel" roads, if that helps you gauge the possible use of only your mountain bike for trips to town.

Since I was in my extended van, I simply did my normal "travel storage mode" every few days to go to the town for food or shopping. (Of course, going to travel mode so often can lead to forgetting to secure something or other in your rig, but you may be more careful than I.) So if there is not a lot you'll need to do to be ready to roll in your Class C, then you may find you don't need your toad.

My thought is that if it stresses you out thinking about towing during the winter from UT, then you may be better off waiting until a spring trip to get familiar with towing.

At the RTR you'll find lots of people to catch rides with or to pick thing up for you. Lots of folks ride their bikes into town, it's about 5 miles so you'll need to be comfortable with a 10 miles rides.

It's no big deal to drive the Class C in town. It's about 3 miles of dirt road, just drive slow and you'll be fine. The town is easy to navigate i RVs.

Even when I had my class A , my mtn. bike and catching rides with others were all I ever needed to get to town for whatever. The rig has wheels too and it's a good idea to exercise it once in a while !
You might need larger things like propane or fuel for the genny or a massive groc run.
