What kind of padding do I put between truck and topper?

Seems like I would need some type of foam rubber, or something. If topper is made of wood, and truck is metal (no liner), how do I seal? I don't want this to get wet and moldy.

Also where would I get such a material?

Any idea on where to get inexpensive plexiglass?

They have a foam tape just for that 1-1/8" wide sticks to the box.

^ ...inexpensive plexiglass...

There are two basic types of clear plastic, polymethacrylate (aka Plexiglass, acrylic) and polycarbonate (aka Lexan).   The cheapest places I've found are the orange and blue home improvement stores.  Acrylic is the cheapest but it quickly turns yellow and hazes from UV light.  It's brittle and hard to cut or drill without leaving spider cracks.  It could work if you buy it precut in the size you want to use.  Acrylic is not durable at all with impacts.  Polycarbonate is more flexible, and the stuff you get from home stores typically has a UV coating on one side.  The coating goes on the outside.  We use polycarbonate in the race cars because it's shatter resistant, it bends before it snaps and that's why it's also used for storm windows.  Polycarbonate is more expensive than acrylic but it's what I'd suggest for a custom creation (if not using RV windows).  One thing to help keep it clear for longer is to only clean it in one direction (up and down) and avoid circular motions because that will leave swirl marks.  Clean it with soap/water then use Plexus or some other plastic polish type product.

they make a gasket especially for that. Home Depot used to have it not sure if they still carry it. it was in the weather strip section. highdesertranger

Look above I posted Amazons price & a picture.

It is easy to remove Butyl rubber tape. Not sure why someone would think it can't be taken apart again with when using that sealant. It is great stuff.

as I see it you need to buy new Butyl every time you remove the topper. the gasket is reusable. highdesertranger
