HighDesert: None of them are good! I bred and showed dogs for years back in NYC. I can tell you, if they're not SHOWING their dogs and improving the breed - they are in it for the money only. What other reason would they have not to spay and neuter their dogs? Dog breeding is nothing but profit, money, extra income to these backyard breeders and puppy mills. 99% of the dogs they breed aren't even up to standard and most of these people don't even know what the standards are for the dogs they're breeding. If you must have a purebred dog, go to someone who is SHOWING and breeding. Don't support the others who couldn't care less what they're breeding and selling.

Dazer: Does she show her dogs to make sure they're worthy of breeding by being up to standard? Does she pay to use champion studs? If so, then she's not a backyard breeder.

Cyndi: I am in total agreement with you. BYBs and Puppy Mills don't have their dogs tested nor do they show them. Those things cost money. These breeders couldn't care less if the pups they sell go blind at young ages or can't walk because of hip dysplasia. I don't know how anyone can defend them. Those who buy the pups end up with a dog who may be a lifelong financial burden them, die young of some heritable disease, not even look or act like the breed, or simply fail-to-thrive and are always sickly.

Dazer: They should be bred ONLY if they're up to standard which less than 1% from mills and BYBs are. The rest should be neutered or spayed. Working dogs are another class of dog. They too should be tested for work or sport before being bred. Those who fail should not be bred from.

so only pure bred dogs by someone who shows are good. pure breeds have many genetic problems. Russian royal family will give you a clue. or more to the subject I prefer mixed breeds (or mutts or curs for all you pure breeders), smarter, longer life, better immune system, and less likely for inbred woes. highdesertranger
