Left ND Mon. morning headed south.Stopped at the casino at the SD state line and dropped $40.Crossed into SD this morning and on into Iowa. All at once the rpms go up and the speed goes down.pulled over and looked underneath.Trans fluid is pouring out the top of the trans.Only had 1 qt of fluid with me,so I poured it in and managed to make it to the next exit and a gas station.Let the trans cool off for a few minutes and poured 3 more qts of fluid in.Started down the expressway and a couple of miles later she starts slipping in Drive.Pulled it down into 3rd and slowed down to 55.So we cruise on down the road I hundred miles or so and cross into Mo.BAM! A trailer tire blows.Course it shredded the tire and ruined the rim before I got to a place to pull over. The jack for the truck wouldn't lift it.I had one of the cheapo mini floor jacks from HF with me and by using them both, finally got the rim off and the spare on.Anyway,we are sitting at a high priced campground a few miles south of Kansas City and will try to make it on home in 3rd gear with no trailer spare tomorrow.Oh Hell, this is all minor stuff compared to some folks problems.

First World problems. you could be doing worse. Hang in there.

Keep us posted, Bob. I've got my fingers crossed for a safe uneventful journey the rest of the way.

Over all my many travels I have had experiences like you are now.
So many stories , so little time.....skuh kuh kuh kuh kuh
I remember times when I thought I could hear the music from Deliverance but was pleasantly surprised by the friendly and very helpful people I found out there......
I also found that I was treated better away from cities and worse near or in cities.
So if you do have to trust someone , go with the country folk !!!

There are mechanics and boneyards everywhere just like on your home turf. If you can't make it home (and it sounds like you just might) you'll have to do some exploring to find them and get 'er done.
These things happen , don't let 'em get ya down . The risk we all take using older vehicles , even in new vehicles stuff happens too.

May better luck follow you.

I would think the opposite actually ...

I am a glass half full guy versus glass half empty :)

You have had GREAT luck as you were lucky enough to have some extra transmission fluid with you and it was enough to allow you to continue on your way (versus you are dead in the road).

You also had a stroke of luck in that you had a spare, it was actually full of air (could have been flat) and the spare was able to be mounted properly on your trailer so that you can continue on your journey.

Even though your first jack wasn't enough you were lucky enough to have had a second jack with you ... :)

May your luck continue to hold up and you find good fortune as you travel along.

Bad things happen to us all ... The lucky ones are able to quickly recover as if it never happened in the first place.

And now you know ...

T.I.M.

Many Thanks for all the good wishes.I have less than 200 miles to go to home.I'll be fine.Like I said, minor stuff.Think of the people killed in auto accidents yesterday,or diagnosed with a deadly disease.

Just goes to show the need for extra fluids and tools. Consider the consequences of not having such? That campsite might have been replaced by an obscene tow bill, and your tranny might be completely toast. You might also have had to pay the tow truck guy to change the trailer tire. All in all, I would say you could be in much worse shape. Good luck getting home safely. Oh, and you have an actual home to go to; so there is that.

if it's coming out the top it's over heating. when it over heats it will puke out the breather or the dipstick. highdesertranger

I empathize. Wishing you safe travels the rest of the way!

Made it home fine,Thanks for all the kind thoughts.I think I'll have a trans flush and see what happens. When we got close to home,I got a little braver and ran it in Drive.Worked fine, but I don't trust it.

Thanks for the update, Bob. Really glad to hear you're home safe and sound
