I'm interested in hearing what everyone thinks of the yet to be release Chromebook.

http://www.google.com/chromebook/#

From everything I've read about it, this seems to be a perfect fit for the average full timing user.

Steve

Wifi is free and there are no limits on that. I'm not crazy about the 100 MBs either, but that's 3G only. I tend to push and pull a lot more data than that and use my regular laptop for it. However if I'm keeping it light and just need to do stuff on the web (browse, email, post pictures) then it's perfect.

The 8.5 hours of runtime power is pure awesome!

Hi Steve, did you ever do any more research about the Chromebook...only $249....interested, it could replace my nettie and be easier for me to type on etc....
Bri

I did and decided that it's not for me at this time. The recent price drop makes it much more affordable for someone looking to do only or mostly internet computing. I highly recommend it for those looking for a keyboard setup with minimalist needs.

I decided that I'm going to go with a full laptop and tablet combo for my needs. The tablet is for quick and easy browsing/lightweight movie watching in bed. The laptop will be for the heavy duty stuff like file transfers/recording & editing music/video editing & production/writing/work/and a bunch of other things I can't remember right now.

Which tablets are you looking at, Steve? I'm in the market but get baffled by the choices...

I'm partial to the Samsung Tab 2 10.1" refurbs, because of the size and price. If I didn't need glasses to read I would get either the Samsung Tab 2 7" or Google Nexus 7".

My needs for it are browsing, watching videos, skype, and sending the occasional short email.

Hi Steve, This looks very interesting. Storing all my data on a cloud? My jury is still out on that part.
Sounds kind of like an Apple thing? I just bought an ipad too, so I have access to the cloud.
-Bruce

Thanks, Steve! I'll look at those. I'll be doingpretty much the same except using it as a reader, also. Weight is one of my big concerns.
