Minimized RV Maximized Convertibility

Hello to All,
My wife and I have been residents of many states and are now retired. We have been renting in FL but are investigating joining the RV nation with qualifications:

The conversion cargo van we are considering is a 144" Sprinter hi-top that is convertible which means:
Bench seats that can be removed,
Bed in back which can be stowed,
Room for a motorcycle behind the 2nd row bench
Outdoor shower

At this time, we don't intend on cooking in it, drinking , bathing, or pooping in it (to start at least)! We would be traveling campgrounds with facilities. I know this doesn't sound like an RV . . . yet.

We are trying to get information from FL Dept. of Taxation which allocates RV registrations asap so we can discontinue renting asap and keep our FL residency.
So far, only RV dealers can get RV registrations. How can a private DIY converter get one?

Are there any Florida CheapRVLiving members out there who can provide us some useful ideas/direction/websites?

I have no idea about RV registration in Fla. but there are several members here in Fla. so someone should chime in. highdesertranger

Unless you're in Orange or Dade counties (tax office is too big and crowded there for the personalized touch), I'd just go to the local tax office and ask them. In Volusia they were super helpful in walking me through the process with my Roadtrek, and had no problem titling my RV as a regular van in order to meet the parking requirements at our condo. I imagine they could walk you through the opposite process just as easily.

That's a great idea. I've only done the online research and phone calls. Both were fruitless. Face to face is still the best way.

Welcome to the CRVL Forums

I like your ideas and spirit of resourcefulness. I'm still operating a 90 model Econoline High Top with bed,
Kitchenette, and basic "traveling lite" storage. Still in the home at this point but I'm plotting my map of places
to go when I'm full timing. Also working on my sites to help myself when on the road and others who wish to
use the info and ideas in them.

I see you mentioning using camp grounds for bath houses etc, but many have a membership to a syndicated Gym or two so that they have a 24/7 place to clean up, exercise if they like, watch TV in the lounge or socialize with others, and change into fresh clothing. They may also ride out a heavy storm in such a place too.
