Merino wool long johns with a flap in back

I have a wool union suit and I love it. I highly recommend shopping around for one, I get mine at the surplus store, but didn't know target carried them.

Those "union suits" look like they'd be toasty inside a sleeping bag.
I saw some fleece lounger/PJs with feet that looked good for people in real cold places.
I haven't felt the need for long johns for lots of years. I like sweats for sleep/lounging if its chilly, like tonight.

I've bought several pairs of these for family, friends and myself, and they are far better quality than the ones I have seen at Wallyworld or Target.
Also, many styles do come with the all important butt flap!

Just don't like the synthetics some wool is a little itchy but these merino are a real exception. I like the Korea era wool army bags You can get a cotton liner so washup is easy.

'Tis winter, I wear long john's every day. No point at my age trying to look sexy, who am I trying to impress anyway? There is no one to impress around me lol.

Thermal socks are great too over which I wear a pair of thick fisherman's knee length thick wool socks. It's like wearing a pair of slippers, lovely and comfy.

One or two of my friends who like me live in the back of their vans full time swear by Afghan slippers. Look good if you don't mind being a hippy. Great for indoor or outdoor use.

Up top, a thermal vest, a thick winter shirt on top of which a big thick wooly jumper. On top of my bald noggin, a thermal hat. Tickety boo. Jobs a good'un.

Merino wool is great stuff provided you can obtain it cheaply. At retail it is ridiculously expensive. I've wondered if some climates have more of it and regular wool available at thrift stores. Doesn't happen in the South, not cold enough. Wool/acrylic blends also seem reasonable although I have less experience with those. Starting to test a new thin sweater now as an underlayer, got a polyester fleece over it. Anything polyester works, as it wicks moisture. Wool doesn't wick moisture, it just keeps providing warmth even when it's 80% wet. Cotton is the fiber to be avoided at all costs if you want to be warm. It traps moisture making you cold. That's for summer.

I love old cashmere sweaters with holes use them as undergarments on my cold bike rides a lot of times from the free pile

not long johns, but merino featherweight t shirts in the summer, layers of merino shirts, hats, gloves, leggings, jackets, sox for cold weather. want merino pants too, but very pricey. i like www.icebreaker.com but only when they have sales at big discount.
