Thanks for responding

I don't know about a side of beef but several quarts of food stuffs
Big but not so big that it would drain my battery
Maybe canning would be a better option

I have a 65 quart dual zone. I was able to get to 20 degrees in the small compartment (25 quart) during the day with but only with good sun. I could not maintain freezing temperatures overnight.

I have 100 watts of solar with a 100 amp hour battery.

I am guessing you would need maybe 500 watts of solar plus sufficient battery to keep a freezer continuously frozen.

I have a Whyter dual zone and am running 200 watts solar and 210 amps battery and have no problems running it even down to 0 on freezer side.but usually run it at 20 degrees. Good sun my solar push batteries up by 11 am maybe 12 depends on previous day sun.

The point I tried to make is the freezer holds a good amount and what you would need to run it with power to spare
Hope this helps

I has a Summit chest freezer built for off grid large but doable in a large vehicle

I have an Engel MR-40 chest fridge and everything is frozen rock hard, year round, running off 124W.. which leaves the battery fully charged up somewhere around mid morning. The dual battery charge controller then switches over to my house battery (which has 220W solar charging 2x70W AGM's). Uses very little power to keep everything frozen. ..Willy.

I agree with Willy. I have 2 Engel's and have no problem keeping stuff frozen. highdesertranger

My fridge envy knows no bounds. ..Willy.

This truck camper is so unforgiving space wise thinking about using the dometic built-in propane for the reefer and the smaller Weaco for a in-cab 12 volt freezer. It's an old coolmitic but still pumping.

What I used to do was pull out the 3way (and sell to some fool on Craigslist), block off/insulate the rear of the fridge enclosure, and install a shelf with sliding brackets (locking) to hold my Waeco. There would be enough room above the Waeco for a shelf too. ..Willy.
