and the Greeks are going to default. A financial mess for the eurozone and a financial disaster for Greece. Can't  figure out why the IMF is still pumping money into their banks.

It's going to affect the incomes of those of us who play the market for capital gains, but it shouldn't bother those of us who depend on dividends for a little boost. Those divvies will still roll in, even if stocks dip.

That's funny, and would probably be more interesting,.

cmon last minute compromise. happens every time. isn't socialism great. promise everything without the money to back it up. sound familiar. remember what Ben Franklin said, "when people find they can vote themselves money, that will herald the end of the republic". at 18 trillion I think we are well beyond that. highdesertranger

There nothing wrong with socialism  in moderation. All first world countries use it to varying degrees and could not function effectively or efficiently without it.  The trick is to understand that what you spend has to be paid for.

couldn't agree more gcal. the problems lies with that 18 trillion that is growing by the second. at the moment we can not afford any more socialism. I live in kalifornia I know all about spending beyond our means everything here cost a fortune because of taxes, fees, levies, etc. highdesertranger

Socialism however it is implemented looks the same to me.  Getting someone else to pay for what someone wants/needs.  Takes the freedom out of being free.  If your cause is so mighty, why are we forced (through taxes) to participate?  The gubermint has taken over the roles once held by churches and charities.  Now I think about going on some gubermint program because I could get section 8 housing (some nicer than my house), free cell phones, and food stamps forever.  No incentive to get out.  They also work for cash on the side and pay nothing into the system except for sales taxes.  I am not against a helping hand, it is the supporting a lifestyle that I do not agree with.

I might treading on thin water here.  Time to go look at other posts.

It's also going to affect those of us who do business in Europe... Me.

Thats why I  used the qualifier "in moderation," BandC. No system is good without moderation, including capitalism.

Yes, it is. Fortunately for me, my little bit of spare cash is invested in dividend paying stock. The price goes up or down, i dont care. My divvies still come in. Back when I played for gains, I'd have been upset, as there would be no extra goodie money coming in.

Margaret Thatcher once said that "The trouble with Socialism is that eventually you run out of other people's money."

So far so good, we've civilly discussed some politics.

But we aren't going to push our luck.

The discussion of socialism and capitalism is closed. Further posts will be deleted.

I don't like it either, this was a good discussion, but past history has made it clear eventually it's going to break down to anger. And if by some miracle this one doesn't, the next one will.
