Across the west part of the U.P. is the prettiest. We used to snowmobile all over. My camp was near Silver Mtn 10 miles south of M38 at the base of the Keweenaw peninsula. We'd ride to the porcupine mountains or Copper Harbor at the tip of the Keweenaw. The towns leave a couple inches of snow as it brings in lots of tourist $$. It was a 600 mile drive to camp so that's a main reason I got into flying. 12 hrs by truck, about 3 by 1940, 1946 or 1938 Taylorcraft & under 2 by Beech V tail Bonanza straight line over the lake SE-NW & a bunch more fun:)

While I’m in the process of catching up on the last 6 weex here at Kamp and whining about my skin cancer aliments, I need to mention my annual April/May dose of poison ivy & worm rash.

Every1 has heard of poison ivy but for those that don’t know about worm rash for your browsing pleasure:

I acquire this yearly annoyance as a result of gathering the kampfire wood 🪵. Usually lasts 2-3 weex and its about run its course now. But I still have plenty of calamine lotion & rubbing alcohol in case of a late May outbreak.😎

Another of my Kamp activities is marking the small white pine trees that sprout up whenever I happen to spot one.
IMG_2623.jpeg

Probably have about 30 marked at this time. Most are about 5” to 8” tall. I mark them so I don’t inadvertently step on one but also so I can put a wrap around them before I leave in the fall.

The deer will eat anything green protruding above the first snow so I cover them b4 they’re devoured.
Every day is Arbor Day

We're 2.5 hrs south & have 40 acres, privacy 120 & 240v, outside water & a cabin on the back of the farm. Let me know.
One of these days I will make my way up there. When I do, I'll get in contact with you. :p Maybe you can tell me about some things to see in Michigan.

Johnny, does the county that Kamp Koon resides in officially allow camping, or is it the more typical "we don't care until someone complains"?

The county I’m in comprises about 850 sq miles of which slightly over 100 is federal national forest land. Probably about another 300 sq miles is privately owned recreation prop. Much of which is hunting/fishing club lands. Most of the rest is small town/village stuff and farmland; people who mind their own business and “dont give a **** what you’re doing as long as you ain’t bothering me”.

Most of the county townships allow some sort of camping - it’s basically hillbilly heaven. Abit of history to the culture: where I’m at is locally known as “whiskey ridge”. Got its name from making bootleg whiskey during prohibition & trucking it to Grand Rapids or down to St Joe where it was boated into Capone Chicago. There are remnants to the old stills here on the Muskegon River ridge not far from me.

My old neighbor, when I had my 80 acres, when he was 12 years old his job was to pound the cork into the barrels for his dad & uncles booze.
Uncle got caught with a load runnin it to St Joe and spent 18 months in prison.

Yeah. If someone wants to Kamp; no one is guna give you any **** about it. 😎🤙

They used to run many ships between Benton Harbor/ St Joe & Chicago putting barrels of whiskey in the holds of the ships 1 trip with the rocking motion would age the booze the same as sitting still for 7 years. If you like history read up on The House of David, King Ben & Mary Parnel.

Lots of running booze up on those lakes during Prohibition, some of those vehicles falling thru the ice and their loads periodically found intact at the bottom.

Great stories. ☺️

Wtf is wrong with you people? Do any of you stay on topic? This thread is in Captains Logs Forum and it’s topic is about Life at Kamp Koon. Do any of you know wtf a Captains Log is/means? Wtf is your reading comprehension level?

Go to off topic, chit chat or wherever and start your own thread about what ever you want and jaw about frozen ice or dry ice or nuclear reactions or the proper way to cook cicada tacos.

Gawd; tired of you thread jacking trolls with your mindless gibberish wrecking decent conversation & inquiry

Just FYI: In the Captain's Logs threads, the OP always has a lot more say-so on the topic direction (and whether to approve of thread detours) than in most other sections.

Thank you and carry on!

(just pushing that broom around!)

The following pix have been posted in the Telescopes thread but in order to maintain the continuity memory of the previous 6 weex here at Kamp Koon I’m noting them here as well.

Another thing regarding living here at Kamp Koon is that I have a terrible cell phone connection. It’s very slow at best and sometimes it just falls off the cliff. 🤷🏻‍♂️ non existent.

To upload or text a picture or vid is always impossible so there’s times if I’m “desperate” I need to travel a couple miles away to an acquaintance’s place where I can sit in their back drive and join their internet connection.

Yep, while here I’m an internet kripple.
jonny boi eeking it out

There is always Star Link! Lol!!!
Yeah; or signal boosters blah blah and if i had a serious need like professional related necessities or health needs I would do something about it but this internet stuff is just mostly recreationally social sooo…….
…… my friends driveway is only 2 miles away if I really need to post a cartoon. 🤷🏻‍♂️
2nite I’m getting fairly timely response but who knows when the latest solar geomagnetic activity brings good signal or no signal. 🤔

😎
