I have found two Land Rover Discovery 2e locally .one is a 2002 the other 2004. Both are between 150 and 200k miles. They are both under $4000. Am I missing something about them as far as low resale? ?

Near overhaul time, if USA low demand to start with and very pricey parts?

RUN AWAY.  John is right.  These things money pits.  Stick with American vehicles or Japanese like Toyota or Nissan.  It's been my experience that European vehicles are more expensive to maintain.  Make your life easy and find a Ford, Chevy or Dodge.  Parts are easy to get and you can find someone to work on them or you can work on them yourself.  IMHO

I've done a lot of research since I posted that. In the end they are barely acceptable off road, transfer cases are crap, and watching videos it looks like it beats the hell out of your side off road. The repair $ is out of this world.
My suburban looks better all the time.

I have a friend with a Land Rover something or other... It's in the shop ($$$) about as much as he drives it.

If it sits, something happens and it needs repair. If he drives it, something happens and it needs repair.

I dont think a person would be well-advised to have one as your primary, or your only, vehicle.
