I saw this in downtown Coeur d'Alene, Idaho. Not sure I've ever seen anything like it before.

Sure. Looks like a home grown flatbed truck with a fiberglass travel trailer on the back.

Lately I have seem several flat bed trucks with small bumper pull trailers with axles removed to keep overall height down. They usually pull a utility trailer with an ATV or UTV. Poor mans toyhauler of a sort.

Looks like a short pull behind trailer that someone mounted to a flat bed truck. Here is a similar unit   http://www.lvparkandsell.com/outside/large_photos.php?id=297537   This one made with a truck camper.

The downside to these is if the builder didn't go through the trouble of getting the title reclassified to being an RV, in some States it will be a major hassle getting registration and insurance.

Why?

At least for just legal liability coverage, it's just a truck whose cargo happens to be the camper body.

That makes sense. I looked at the one in the link you provided. That was a nice build / conversion! Dude even had a place for his cycle!

On the reclassification, I guess that's the same thing VanDwellers face when converting.

No with a van you can leave it classified as a van and still get insurance with most carriers. With a truck that size you will need to get a commercial insurance carrier and being an individual and not a business, that may be tough. Insurance laws vary with each State. What is easy to register and insure in one State can be a nightmare in another.

Okay, I was basing my comment on one of Bob's videos where he interviews a guy about insurance. Not sure I caught all the details since I don't have a van.

When it comes to registration and insurance, commercial vehicles with a GVWR over 10,000 lbs are a different critter. I wanted to convert a bread truck here in Nevada. Couldn't get insurance. Auto insurance said no it's commercial. Commercial carrier said we don't insure individuals, only companies. If I formed a small handyman company and insured it, the insurance would take my money, but claim fraud if I ever needed to file a claim.

Just get real work as a traveling handyman, not a bad real idea

Nice thing about mobility, we get to choose which jurisdiction we want to register in.

No need for it to be the same as our legal domicile either, long as we do stay more mobile for those physical locations that enforce such restrictions.

Lot's of people jumping on the 'expedition vehicle' bandwagon.

Looks like they took a pre-made camper and bolted it on a Fuso 4WD.

Hey if it works for them, cool!

The camper looks like a Bigfoot Industries, Bigfoot 2500 Series 25B175CB travel trailer, minus the axle.  A new one of these trailers cost over $40,000.
