4 yrs ago I was stuck in the feedback loop of mainstream society, produce, consume then repeat. I knew there had to be a more authentic way of living but that it would take radical changes, external and internal, to live it. So I began to visualize it and "walk" towards it.

This morning I stood in a small meadow on a peninsula that juts a couple of miles into El Vado reservoir in North NM with a cup of tea in hand and realized my dreams were manifesting. I was overwhelmed with gratitude. I've never felt so free and alive.

Nice!  I love those moments when you wake up and realize "this is cool."   Great photos too, except someone parked a truck right where you were trying to take a picture... JK  Lol!

Recently a young man I talk with about the Cheap RV Living way of life mentioned a movie he thought I should see.

He explained it was by Michael Moore and titled,  "Capitalism,  A Love Affair".   So I found a copy listed at a Library a few towns away and I put in a request for it.   Your post about being stuck in the consumerism LOOP reminded me of his wanting me to see that movie.

Some random photos of this spot, El Vado State Park . Several of an odd old cemetery

Decided it's too hot for me here. Headed to Hopewell Lake area, about 9500 ft elevation, tomorrow.

Never been there but the elevation will help with the heat. Drink plenty of water to ward off altitude sickness. Enjoy yourself.

Fab pics. Great rig and happy you are on the road now.

You walked toward what you wanted and accomplished it! Let freedom ring :)

Cool.

"Go north, young man". Colorado is just up the way. When I lived there, it would be 100F in the Front Range at 5,000', and 20 degrees and more cooler in the mountains above 9,000'. Many of the trailheads are at 10,000' in the national forest, and you can camp up there. Leadville itself is at 10,000' and Independence Pass is at 12,000'. Many other towns are near high elevation places. Top of the USA. Stay until September. You got the life.

Been doing some roaming, exploring, getting the lay of the land. Found an impressive Vietnam Veterans Memorial Museum in Angel Fire, NM. Extremely well done, imo.

I visited Angel Fire many years ago, and it was an interesting resort oasis miles from nowhere. Fun town for the well off. I can only imagine what real estate there would cost today. BTW, matala have you tried driving up to Taos ski area? I notice the base elevation is 9400', should be cool. Maybe hike up Wheeler Peak. The other place nearby that might be a possibility for camping is near Red River on Hwy 38.

Do try to resist painting everyone with the same sticky tar brush. There are so many people in this forum crying...."I am stuck" or "I am trapped" that one might think what you are saying is true but fortunately it is not a universal truth about how people are raised and programmed.

Only some people have been programmed that way. There are plenty of parents in this world who are raising their children to embrace simplicity and to resist becoming mindless consumers of disposable goods. There are also parents who very much encourage their children to be independent income earners and help them start their own versions of business when very young. Others encourage their children towards a life of service to others. I myself was raised to know that I could do or be whatever I wanted. For instance I remember as a teen watching a TV show with my Dad that was all about Alaska and Seattle. I told him I wanted to go to those places and his response was when you are an adult you can do whatever you want to do. At 19 I had moved on my own to Seattle, stayed 9 months then moved to Alaska. I am 70 now so this was not an example of a young "modern" upbringing. I have not always been nomadic but every vehicle I have purchased has been one that could be used to live in if needed. They were all capable of being slept inside of which I have done many times over the years. Some were station wagons, some were vans, some were trucks with canopy shells and now I have a mini SUV and a travel trailer.

Stack Overflow, for the obligatory 2019 April's Fool prank, implemented Angelfire theme across their different web sites. Annoying as hell.

@maki2
Do I really need to put "imo" in every post?
My statement is true for the majority, imo.

I have a task that keeps coming back to this area, Heron Lake. However I now need to find the closest State Park with good Verizon signal to do some research.

You're definitely out there. I checked freecampsites and campendium but couldn't find any campsites in the area. Looks like the closest option for wifi is the library in Chama, 20 miles away. Turn left at 4th St.

I remember driving north on Hwy 64 some years ago, and there being a little mexican restaurant on the right, just past the Brazos River. I seem to recall the food was good.
