If possible, try not to park near a drive-thru.

well.the good news is it's just a bumper, should be easy to pick one up on craigslist or local u pull it/salvage yard

Any 1 try to put milk or juice jugs near your bumpers?
Or get the orange cones @ a sports store . .

I have in residential neighborhoods
( milk jugs filled w/  water )
No ticket yet.

I wouldnt get angry.
I'm into meditation & peace.
I'd just take pics & call my insurance.

That sucks. If you don't have Full Coverage (comp/collision), inquire with your Insurance Carrier about "Hit While Parked". Depending on your State, the deductible should be around $100-200. It may or may not affect your rates in terms of you losing discounts or being eligible for Standard Policies (which are lower premiums). If it's not that much to get a junkyard bumper and do it yourself, then forget using insurance.

Anyone have one of those cargo carrier mounted on their hitch that get run into while parked? I worry about how it sticks out so much, especially with a full sized van.

How does a bumper get so mangled?

Looks like it was made of wet cardboard.

My last trip to Baja in 2007, when I was leaving( foolishly on a Sunday Evening, Some drunk in a ford thunderbird smashed into the same corner of my bumper, hard enough it almost spun me out, and the bumper shows only slight damage.  My class 3 trailer hitch 1/4 inch steel got bent 45 degrees though.  If it was not there the collision likely would have punctured my fuel tank.
I did not stop, just kept driving keeping an eye on my fuel gauge.

Hope the bumper swap with a junkyard one goes smoothly.  Get some PB blaster or similar penetrating fluid  on those bolts now if you have to do it yourself.

I got rear-ended while parked on the street. Not a pleasant way to wake up at 2 am. The Honda that hit me had its front end mangled. The driver was busy digging thru his Happy Meal rather than watching the road.

I was lucky considering the damage to the other vehicle. He knocked my van right into the street. ... with my ebrake on.

What is PB Blaster?

Actually Sternwake answered that in the post, it is Penetrating fluid. It will help with getting those stubborn corroded, rusty nut's off when you do change the bumper.

Usually it is applied hours and or a day before you begin work on it.

PB Blaster happens to be one of if not the best product to help loosen seized nuts and bolts.

I was imaging that your van must have been hit quite hard and moved from an impact that would damage the bumper like that. (assuming your bumper is anything like mine. I hit a stone retaining wall at the end/corner of my bumper. It just got twisted a bit - enough for me to notice it whenever I look at the bumper)

sitting still is one thing  but how   about doing 60 on interstate and being rear-ended by drunck doing 110  by state police report
