Hey there all. I'm Kris and I've been an avid follower of this site since last summer. I graduated college in snowy MN here and decided to move out west. I originally wanted to convert a step van but decided that a towable trailer would be better for me since I would like to have a detachable vehicle. I've done construction for years so i decided to buy a fixer-upper and got a 22ft 1975 Mallard bumper pull trailer. I fixed it all up and am planning to hit the road in March. I plan on going to SoCal to help my brother build/fix things on his property. I'd then like to head to Bishop to rock climb for awhile and by then I hopefully will hear back from my job applications to the Nat'l Parks for 6 month temp jobs.
Few other things, i have an '01 Dodge Dakota 4.7 V8 and am a bit apprehensive about its ability to pull my trailer on steeper grades. I have been laid off since October and didn't receive my full pay. That has hurt me enormously in my plans for leaving because I had enough to live for about a year or so, and without that money, i'm down to about 5 months.
Anyway, enough of that. I'll post in other spots and let ya get on with your day. Have a good one, eh!

hiya Kris! sounds like a good plan! post your questions in the forums where you will get answers and encouragement. lots of knowledgeable people here, and more joining every day!

Figured I'd "re-introduce" myself since it's been so long (almost 2 years, partially due to spotty internet access, partially for me being busy with other things).

I lived out of my 1975 20 feet Mallard RV for 9 months. Many things weren't jiving with it due mostly to living organisms. First, when I was a campground host in Tahoe, a bear broke in several times to the trailer and busted out two windows and destroyed some cabinetry. I fixed as best I could and brought it back to MN. Then the mosquitoes were finding ways to get in and then I finally stopped them after a week. There was a a leak in the roof when I bought it and I fixed it. Problem was that it was pretty evident that with having the windows closed back in MN (they were always open in CA), that there was a big mold issue in the roof. With all of these issues and given the current situation I was in, I decided to "upgrade" to a 2004 25 ft Ultralight Rockwood. I got it at a steal of a deal and it was hardly used!
I am content with it (about 6 months of use), but the problem is that its efficiency bugs me beyond belief. I have 25 feet of space and don't need nearly that much. I'm looking now to sell it off (for more than I paid for it by 25% due to local market trends) and convert a utility trailer for the efficiency . If you want to know anymore about what I'm doing lifestyle wise, check my blog in my signature.

Been lurking for about 3 days now again. Good to see some familiar names that are still rocking strong here! I see a lot of new faces which is equally as exciting. Hope I can help out more now that I'm a little more experienced with living on the road.

Welcome back! I was happy to see your blog updated, too!
