Hello, all!

I thought I'd throw this out there....

As part of our, "social distancing," adventures, my 13-year-old son and I are planning on completing the southern portion of the Idaho Centennial Trail (from Nevada border, near Jarbridge Canyon/Bruneau River) to Canada, beginning with the secton from NV border to Atlanta this year.

This entails a bikepack to Hammet or further... possibly to Atlanta on bikes.  I am 41.  So... we are not super fast (correction - the 13 year old IS - LOL) - but we are 10-20 mile-a-day folks by bike, and 7-10 by foot packers....

Anyone interested in joining us?  I have a link to park our van with an outfitter who will transport our bikes to the NV border and reunite in Hammet.

So that takes care of the safe van/home storage idea.

Other than a request for interest/joining, let's discuss long-distance bikepacking/backpacking/Triple Crown (AT, PCT, CDT), and other long trail pursuits!

Distance estimate?

You can quickly get distances by entering the proper terms into the google search window It also draws you a map.

"distance jarbidge NV to stanley ID" .... 236 miles.
"distance stanley ID to lewiston ID" .... 317 miles.
"distance lewiston ID to coeur d'alene ID"... 116 miles.
"distance coeur d'alene ID to eastport ID" .... 109 miles.

Yeah, but are those distances for a trail that may wander all over the place? :)

Boy, yer hard to please. That's the scenic route. I chose it that way.

Actually I'm familiar with Google Maps but have limited data so don't use it that much.

Also a slow connection. Out here in the sticks.

Actually if you try what I mentioned, entering the strings into the google search window, it doesn't take you to google maps, it just gives you the distance and shows a small map with the route marked on it. And if you don't like that route you can specify one going between other towns. I've found this feature to be very useful for quickly finding distances between places.

A trail that not only wanders horizontally, it goes up and comes back down, over and over.
Have fun with your son.

If you want the shortest distance, use google maps in walking mode. Or right click and select measure distance, click starting and then ending point. You can add more points to it too. This will give as the crow flies distances.

I use that mode all the time too, but as you say, it works a little better for crows.
