Hello All,

  I've been planning to become a van dweller for about a year now but haven't pulled the trigger to buy a van yet. What really inspired me to do this is because of watching those tiny home living on youtube. Also came across van living and becoming a  minimalist. A dream of mine is to drive across all states and enjoy everything thats out there. A little about myself, young guy(30) I work at the hospital in the Bay Area so I have a steady income each month. I also DJ at club/lounge, special events, and do some photography (still learning). I plan to have everything bought and put together by the end of this year. I've done a lot of research and got most of the basic essentials down. At the moment I am in debate on which cargo van to buy Chevrolet express or Ford e250.

Greetings. I lived in the Alameda area most of my life. Most of the time on a boat in the Alameda / Oakland Estuary. Now I retired to Pahrump Nv.

On cargo vans Chevy is a good choice. Dodges have unibody construction so as long as they are not rusted out, they are fine, (is what I have actually). Google Ford engine problem. Between 2004 and 2008 they had spark plug problems. The early ones would strip and fly out of the engine, the later one's would break off halfway down and get stuck in the head. I never did like Fords, so take my opinion as being biased.

A 3/4 ton vehicle will allow you to outfit it to a greater degree. A half ton is soon overloaded, Water is 8.3 lbs per gallon, Batteries tend to weigh 60 lb. a piece, add camping and living gear and you are soon at your limit. The brakes are designed for 1/2 ton, so if you do overload it, you are getting into a risky area.

Welcome AJ... There's a bunch of cool areas around the bay area to test out your new digs when you get set up.. I've spent many an RV night in NoCal from Davis up to the Wine Country..
