First, I would like to thank those responsible for this site. I have spent a few days reading various articles. This is my first time here on the forums.

I have spent this summer off the road, out fitting a Van I picked up last March in Arkansas. I spent a year on the road, tent camping around the country. Spending most of the winter in south west Arkansas. It was there, that the ford explorer I was traveling in, got hit and taken off the road. I found the Van within a week and knew I had lots of work ahead of me. So, I returned here to New Hampshire, where I am originally from and have lots of helpful friends, and settled in for a summer of getting ready to hit the road again.

I have replaced the engine, transmission rebuild, shocks and have somewhat finished up interior cabinets.

I was hoping to be on the road by now, but living on social security is limiting and slows my progress. So, it looks like October and maybe even November before I get to leave.

I am planning on Arizona in January, would love to meet others that are doing the same as I.

I do have a traveling blog with many photos, but will not post the address until I know it is proper on this site.

Happy Trails!

Hi Greybeard, welcome to the forum. As i am origionally from upstate Ny, i have enjoyed my time in NH, esp. the hiking in the whites. Glad to have ya, and if you find yourself in alabama on the way to arizona ( dude, yer lost!!), feel free to drop bye.

Welcome from another New England boy. Grew up in Ct, lived in Springfield, MA, Tilton, NH and Bangor, ME. When You stop to see Les H in AL, run on down to the FL panhandle and stop in before heading west.

Welcome to the group. Your van is coming along nicely, it appears.

Thanks for all the Welcomes and Hellos!
Just finished tinkering with the Van, installed a third brake light, I like to be visible.
Tomorrow I hope to get some roof racks together for my thule box and kayak.
Always something to do.

Hello Greybeard, my bruthuh. As another member of the SS pensioner lodge I hate to see you refer to it as limited. The secret bylaws require us to discuss it in terms of making us live longer waiting for enough to get the hell out of Dodge. I'm new here also and don't know nuthun, but after I learn some more stuff and get together enough gas money maybe we can figure out a way I can T-Bone that van of yours somewhere in New Mexico on your way to AZ and put us both living under a bridge.

Well JosephusMinimus, SS isn't limited as you say, but what I get does limit what I can do at times.

And I would just as soon not get T-boned again, at least not for quite awhile. Maybe I'll see you in Arizona, just as soon not be living under a bridge just yet. Would like to get a bit of use out of this Van, now that I have put so much into it.
Welcome aboard, GB!

Thank you all for the wonderful Welcome's and how do ya do's.

Still tinkering on the Van, got my roof racks on, a couple wardrobe hinges and some door latches ready to go today.

Tomorrow morning I'm getting my rear door stop mechanisms welded. Another great idea by Chevy, but I guess they aren't supposed to last much more than twenty seven years.

If gas prices keep going up I'm going to have to find me a spare armored truck!

Welcome Greybeard. Look forward to seeing all the pics of your upcoming travels. Have fun gettin ready.
Rae

Hi David,

I saw the pics of your van when you started and what you've accomplished, and I must say that it looks quite nice! Well done. And pickles!!! Makes me homesick for the bread and butters I did NOT make this year. Your dills looked wonderful. I hope I get to meet you at RTR someday in the future. And thank you for cluing us in to your wonderful blog with all that great photography! Be safe!!

Well Angeli, I carry a few jars of those pickles with me. So if you are in Arizona in January, you may get to try some.

Welcome! The van looks great! Fall is beautiful in New Hampshire but Arizona is much better in January. ;-) Hope to see you there!
