So I'm 25, saving for my first vehicle, and I happened upon this. Now how nice would it be to get a Cargo Van for my first car. At first I thought about a truck. I could put a topper on it and throw a bed in the back. But because of the recent weather there's a possibility of loosing power. Because of that I've taken a futon and put it against the balcony window. Doing that made me realize that I don't really use a lot of things. I have my computer and TV, I've got my bed and clothes, I've got my camping gear, kayak, and food. All of this stuff could be fit in a van pretty easy and it would mean I could travel more to nearby parks and just be happier.

So I made a 5 Year Plan and the hope is that by the end of it, I won't be living in a apartment anymore. Now I know I won't be able to afford one of those fancy sprinter vans with a lot of space, but I will make it work. I plan on having a kitchen, bed, shower, gaming and entertainment area, workshop, and storage all in one cargo van. I plan on doing this by turning the bed into a murphy bed which when in the upright position houses a desk. When the bed is down the desk will act like the legs for the bed. The shower will be able to fold in on it's self and will only stick off the wall 8" which gives plenty of room when not in use. The kitchen will be as high tech and energy efficient as I can make it but it will try to be compact as well. Still figuring that part out. Storage is also something I am still planning, but the hope is that I can have everything I would need, right in a simple little area. Now I do plan on using solar to charge a battery bank as well as a Goal Zero 1250 Generator. Possible Wind Turbine too.

But I am on a budget and if I get the van on my minimal budget, I'll be grateful. All work will have to be done in the meantime. In 5 months we will see if I get the van, and if so, we will take it from there.

Welcome! I would definitely go with a van, not a truck with topper, for fulltiming, my truck with topper just hasn't enough room

Welcome to the CRVL Forum   :)

I think many here would tell you that they think you are making a good choice in vehicle.  You could start basic
as I did (my first website below shows how I did mine)  and then add to it.   The basic would get you mobile so you could travel and perhaps find a good paying job where you could save up enough money to outfit with all
the things you are wanting.  THEN...you could be on the road all set up.  But I'm sure you'll work out a strategy
you can live with.

All the best !
