Compared to the custom cars that I see on TV, it seems reasonable that one could remove the passenger seat and create a pathway into the slide in.

Has this ever been done?

You are talking about a pickup truck, right? Just my opinion, but since the pickup cab and bed are separate and meant to flex independently, this won't work well.  Now if the cab and bed were joined together as one piece like the old El Camino's, then maybe.

^^^ What Ballenxj said.  Plus if you are talking about a doorway, you would have to chop up the pickup box, weakening it.

If you are thinking about a pass through between truck and camper, this has been discussed in a previous thread:

It probably has been done.  That doesn't mean it works well or is a smart thing to do.

it can and has been done. but you better know what you are doing. highdesertranger

The M1010 military ambulance, which was built on an 80s chevy pickup, had the cab and box connected.

You'd need a sleeper boot for this. It allows the flexing of the truck and bed to remain independent. Lots of semi truck/sleeper combos used this and they flex A LOT. Google truck cab sleeper boot and then pick images and you'll see what I'm talking about.

accordion boot. my sleeper is connected to my cab with it but I only removed my rear window. highdesertranger

I just open the window in the cab and the window in the camper large enough to slide through. with the available escape hatch I can close the tailgate if needed.
