The trailer I am looking at has 3/8 ply walls, standard, probably why it weighs more than the Carry On you started with (1300lb for a 7x12, 1400 for a 7x14)
Damn I don't want to go pricier for a tandem, my Ranger towed my 8x16 TT just fine, aside from not wanting to climb, what in the world is in your trailer to add over 2k lb,? I read your build and nothing looked all that heavy
 
I was once told that the box was the same on the SA and DA and a second or third axle could be added later. Any info on this?
 
Art, it all adds up. 8 sheets of paneling, a couple sheets of plywood for cabinets etc... some hardwood trim, sink, faucet, water containers, stove and kitchen box. Even the insulation and wiring add up. Nothing too heavy by itself, but added together? Then you add 15 gallons of water, a 400 lb motorcycle, food for a couple weeks, cloths, ice, beverages, Propane, Mr Buddy Heater, chairs, well you get the idea. I think most people's rigs are heavier than they imagine unless they've actually run their rig across a scale, after it's completely loaded for the road. Not just after they complete the conversion but before they load it with food, water etc.

Just as an example, the last time I hunted from a backpack for 8 days my pack weighed right at 50 lbs with all my cloths camping gear, etc. Once I added food, 2 liters of water, and my rifle I was carrying 75 lbs. Stuff adds up quickly.
 
good point, and I'm towing with a Ranger
I think maybe a Runaway is a better option for me, it'll limit how much 'stuff' I can cram in there, it'll go anywhere mt truck will (and then some) and I don't have to build it
by the time I might consider true fulltiming, where i actually need more stuff, I might be in a place where i can get a rig better suited
