Over The River & Thru The Woods

Sun not yet up here in N CA, but out on the deck my old Webber is already
glowing with coals.  (Thankfully, no rain today.)

Yesterday, with help of my RV visitors, my unpardoned heritage turkey was
dispatched, plucked, dressed.  It's a monster: 21 pounds.

My RV guests, refugess of the Redwood Complex Fire, will soon be leaving &
today we share a farewell feast.  I've made pies: pumpkin walnut & apple---
& home made French vanilla ice cream.  My guest are bringing mashed potatoes,
yams, glazed carrots, & braised green vegetables.

I've made a stuffing with King Bolete mushrooms---fresh picked & sauteed
with bacon, green onions, garlic, toasted sour dough crumbs.
Just the thought of this repast almost makes me swoon!

So, whether slaving over a solar cooker, rocket stove, Coleman burner, or
open fire I wish you all bon appetit & a very  Happy Thanks Giving!

Wow! Sounds like quite the feast! Have an awesome day!

Sounds delicious!

And the sharing with your special guests in the time leading up to today shows a true understanding of what Thanksgiving is really about!

Sounds like a beautiful day :) All the best to you all & Happy Trails!

Happy T-day.

Thanks, Stranger---you also!

Looks like we won't be carving till 8pm.  That monster bird
was so big the Webber lid wouldn't cover it.  We improvised
by cutting a piece of metal flashing to raise the outer edge.

(Good thing I didn't stuff the bird, or it we'd be having a
midnight supper.)

I set the table for eight last night, so all I have to do now
is make the cranberry relish.  My favorite kind, uncooked &
ground up with fresh oranges.  I've pulled out all the stops
& unpacked my great grandmother's china, along with a fine
vintage damask table cloth.  With any luck, this might be my
last Thanksgiving here.  It's a bittersweet event...

 Charlotte

My kids didn't want turkey. I just put the leg of lamb in the oven. Last meal with any kids in this home. #4 son moves out tomorrow and hopefully, we're still closing on the house next week. When that happens, we will be very thankful!

I'm having turkey hot dogs--does that count?   :)

Hi Lenny,
Sure, & I bet you'll be washing those down with some of your very own
home brew.  Did you *really* label that stuff Viking Piss?
:p Cheers

Hi Ted,
Leg of Lamb---just about my favorite!  I am crossing my fingers for your closing.  I'm a ways
off from that still, but heading there.  Best of luck & be sure to let us know how it goes.

Cheers,
:) Charlotte

Yep. The labels had a picture of a Viking pissing into a bottle.  :)
