I was reading a thread here somewhere about mattresses...condensation etc. I wonder if this might be a really good idea for a sturdy, inexpensive, and ventilated bed frame.

Wire shelving. This one, 24 x 72inch (which is what I would be looking for for a Transit Connect). Weight capacity 450lb.

Then add the shelf posts for legs. These are 14inch. (I would hope to find 16" ones....) They even sell leveling doodads.

For $38, you'd have a streamlined, elegant solution. Top it with a Thermarest, throw four large Rubbermaids underneath and BAM.  :D  You're golden.

Longer posts are here http://www.buyrack.com/p-26-stationary-posts.aspx?gclid=CPzWrcex6tACFUWewAodNasPDQ

You could use two racks with a longer post and have a bunk bed or bed with overhead storage. The second rack would give it more stability.

Don't forget the clips ,(need 4 sets per shelf), http://www.buyrack.com/p-30-shelf-clip.aspx

Thanks DannyB. I did think of the shelf/bunkstyle idea...and it would be brilliant except that (in my case) it would make getting to the front seat without opening a door too difficult I think. -older version Transit Connect. (unless I did two units....one with short posts and the other with long posts + top shelf?)

Do you think those posts can be cut? I'd like to have 16-18" of clearance under the bed.
And, do you think my idea is legit or am I having a blonde moment...?  :p
Other side of van could have a narrower set. https://www.uline.com/Product/Detai...rTrIrtn98unWJrzeLzLOEaAgEx8P8HAQ&gclsrc=aw.ds

What an interesting idea! I hope you'll post your results if you do decide to do this.

If buying and cutting longer posts doesn't appeal, maybe 'bed risers' -- available in many stores and online. Looks like the minimum added height would be 3". Maybe too much?

I would think the posts could be cut. They are just pipes with a groove in them for the keeper to sit into at different levels. The edge would be raw where it was cut, so you may need some rubber caps used on chairs.
I have had these racks, (can buy them at big box stores), but not with a shelf large enough for a bed.
