I live in my and its leagle for a loaded gun in any factory compartment. I was wondering if anyone had any experience in this

I keep one with me, glove box while driving, in back with me when camping
There's gonna be a lot of response to this, and it'll likely get political and get shut down in short order

This is very state (and sometime city) specific.  The absolutely best solution is to consult an attorney familiar with gun laws in the state/city of interest, but that costs $$$.

The best website I have found is:

http://handgunlaw.us

I wouldn't trust my freedom on advice I got from a forum/bulletin board/chatroom.

you'd probably be better off researching older gun threads. Any that come up lately have the same people commenting then disagreeing and the thread getting shut down.

Even though you live in your vehicle, I think you are going to find that most states still treat it as just another vehicle and not the same as a building you lived in.

There is a Federal law that makes it legal to travel through any of the fifty states as long as the gun is unloaded and locked away.  But you are talking about carrying it loaded, so that won't apply.

As far as many, if not most states are concerned, it is illegal under the game and hunting laws to carry a loaded shotgun or rifle in a vehicle.

If a  handgun is carried loaded in a vehicle, I believe you need a valid concealed carry permit for the state you happen to be in.  There are some exceptions to this.  I've heard that in a few states, it's legal if the gun is in plain sight.  And of course, in states where no permit is needed for concealed carry, car carry is also perfectly legal.

The Handgunlaw site Spaceman Spiff mentioned has special sections on "RV/Car Carry" and "Long Guns in Vehicles" .

Many states allow handguns to be carried in your vehicle (loaded) even without a permit. Some require it in plain sight, others require it completely concealed. Obvious exceptions are California, NY, NJ, IL, DC, etc. It is your responsibility to research each state's laws before doing so. The link above is a great place for that info.

Long guns are almost never allowed to be loaded in a vehicle.
