Hey All,

I've only written on here once (when you all gave me some great advice as to which car to buy) but I haven't written anything since then, so I want to give you all an update.

I moved into a 2002 Dodge Ram Conversion Van (High Top) on August 21st, and have been living in it since then, so I'm just under two months. Although it's only been two months, and I have chilly winter coming up, I can easily say that this is the best living experience that I've had in years, and maybe ever.

I'm working here in Jersey, and I'm able to save a lot of money, I can sleep in a really expensive area where my only "rent" is gas and insurance, and every weekend is an adventure because I travel around and don't have to worry about paying for hotels or eating out every meal. So all in all, this has been a blast so far, and for anyone tempted to make the jump into van living, I say go for it!

And I know how much everyone loves photos of conversions, so I'm going to try to post some of what I did to my van.

As I hope you can see in the above photos, the carpet was NASTY and I just didn't want to deal with it. So after I took out the seats, I ripped out the carpet, wiped it down, and then put in some Allure Vinyl Flooring from Home Depot. That gave it a really nice feel to it.

Then I made a bed (which was really cheap, thanks to the great instructions that Bob laid out on the "Convert a Van for $60").

Then I added in a couple things to hold stuff from Walmart and bed Bath and Beyond, and I have all the storage I need behind my bed, under my bed, and next to my bed.

I wasn't really pinching pennies when I was getting this all set up, and the total bill still came out to around $300.

Again, thanks to all of you for your encouragement to not live like everyone else! This has been and I'm sure will continue to be a great experience.

Best to all of you
Scott

Glad you have had good experiences so far! I haven't stayed in my van in cold weather yet either. There is so much great advice here for how to get through a cold winter safely and comfortably!

Nice job. We are thinking about removing the electric fold down seat in our van and really like the height of your bed. Glad to know the plans are found on Bob's blog site.:) Jan
