I work in a small farm town in Idaho, for the last week there has been a Good Sam Club sign just as you come into town. Come to find out there was a Good Sam Club gathering at the fair grounds on the other side of town, I found this out when I met a couple that came into the store that I work at. They are from California, about an hour or so from were I used to live.

We got to talking and they said I should check out there event at the fair grounds if I get a chance. So after work I drove by the fair grounds, and all I saw was a bunch of old people standing around talking, and 99% of the motor homes at the fair grounds were $100,000 dollar plus class A rigs, and I only saw one older class C motor home.

I just found it kind of funny, but at the same time not something I would want to be a part of. If you want and can afford a class A motor home, then go for it. But when I get my rv I would feel more comfortable hanging out with other people that have class b, class c, or vans.

I don`t feel out classed by anyone that has a class A motor home, its just not my thing.

This is kind of a ramble, and maybe it makes sense ?.

I don't think avoiding people because of the Class of their RV alone a good idea, who knows what kind of potential life long friends you might be passing up. Nobody enjoys being stigmatized and i'm sure they don't like it anymore than someone else does who chooses a van. Instead I'd focus on the fact where all out there trying to live on the road and let that common interest be our common bond.

I'm a member of Good Sam Club and while I meet the criteria of being an old fart I am far, far from the 2 and 3 hundred thousand dollar diesel pushers and such. I have never felt like I was looked down on because I am not wealthy and my RV was an oldie.

Their interests are different than the majority of the folks here. And yes, their Jamborees tend to attract an older crowd. lots of campfires, adult beverages and planned activities. If it ain't your thing there is an easy solution.....Don't go.

Any type of club gathering has always seemed way too organized for us. Take a look at the schedule for the the Samboree in your little town - http://www.idahogoodsam.org/show_PDF/2016SamboreeAgenda03
They have something going on every minute of the day!  We prefer the RTR gatherings where everyone just does whatever they feel like doing. Plus we have so many different types of homes from tents to class As and such a diverse group of people that it's always interesting and fun. Hope you can make it to one!

We have been Good Sam members for years and never attended an event. Saw the photos and have observed a meet up from afar in a campground. The people in most of these groups are older and now even at 61 years old, they seem a lot older than I am, some probably old enough to be my parents. I like older people more one on one, especially those in their 80s because many have great stories. I don't want to play horseshoes or bingo, just have one long distance grandchild...........

Involved in RVing for more than 30 years, there is a "cast" system in place. Many of them play "keeping up with the Joneses" just like the "sticks and bricks" world.

We were members of GSC for a year. Since we aren't some big behemoth, we didn't buy anything from them. We did use the gas discount at Flying J and Pilot, but the savings didn't add up to the annual cost of membership. We dropped it.
