So you have an armory lol.

Nah, just different tools for different environments. <img src="/images/boards/smilies/smile.gif" border="0" align="absmiddle">

If you like Tanfoglios, you would like most CZ's, from which they are patterned. Tanfoglios were imported under many guides, from the DE Baby Eagle, to the Armature AR24 to a model of Springfield of which I can't recall. The most common import of Tanfoglio was by EAA as the Witness line. There is no worse importer to deal with in terms of warranty than EAA. I have utter contempt for them. I owned a Tanfoglio EAA Witness 10mm, full-size, steel, Wonderfinish. A gorgeous gun that handled the recoil of full-house 10mm nicely but I spent more in ammo and parts trying to get the gun to cycle reliably than the original purchase price of the gun. They also had issues with both the slides and frames cracking. Never again.

Armalite, not Armature. Guises, not guides. Darned autocorrect.

Just don't travel in CA with that Taurus Judge.  It's prohibited in CA.

I have a bit of a menagerie. I am not listing everything but a good sample.  H&K PS90, FN FAL, H&K 91, STI DVC-L, Colt Delta Elite, Stoger 3500 modified for 3 gun, Kimber micro9 (have two of them), Kimber pro carry II, FN Ballista, 1874 Sharp's Rifle by Uberti, Model S&W500, ruger sp101 .357, a Handful of MILSURP's, a handful of Bolt action Rifles, Ruger Vaquero in .45 COLT, 10 or 12 self built AR pattern rifles, various other semi-auto rifles, and 3 Canik TP9SF's all stock for shooting USPSA and Steel Challenge.

Hunting rig for Deer, Elk that kind of thing is either a Thompson venture in 7mm-08 or 6.5X55 Swede M/38 action on sport stock and new Bartlein Barrel.

Carry rig just depends but mostly in non bear areas a Micro9 by Kimber or  .45, in Bear woods (where legal to do so) Colt Delta Elite 10mm.

Really?  What grounds?

Am I wrong in remembering that as the five-shot revolver chambered for a rifle round?

I used to black bear hunt & they do climb trees. I like 10mm also & have all 3 sizes 10mm Glocks. Underwood has some great 10mm ammo but started carring a folding 19 with a total on 28, 27+1, Drops in a pocker & Its so comfy I don't even think aout it. I carry the orig 21 rd in a pocket so if 49 gold dots won't do it I'm done for. It was just on sale for well under $700 OTD for the gen 4.

the Taurus Judge chambers a .410 shotgun round. with a barrel under 16 inches. highdesertranger

An aside, does anyone know what happened to twokniveskatie?

I think they just made this illegal in California.  Confirmation anyone?  Barrel length cited sounds way long for the revolver I'm thinking of.

As of last year she was taking care of a family member on her farm in the east. I see Bob still posts on the yahoo group.

I have three 22 long rifle firearms myself. The ammo is cheap and I believe it's enough to get most jobs done. I feel it's plenty for self defense. There are some great YouTube videos that prove itself as a self defense weapon. I especially like the Ruger SR22 for consealed carry, The Colt 1911 22LR made by Walther for open carry and I also have a Ruger 10/22 take down rifle. Those 3 are all I need. I don't consider myself a gun nut because I don't "love" guns. They are simply tools that I need to have in today's world.

Holy thread revival!

Id like to add the judge is a nice piece. 410 for snakes and colt 45 strong enough for bears.

My other choice would be the new taurus 692 - .357/9mm though a mid-length barrel option would be nice.

My full-size 9mm is nice for 13 rounds but its a marginal load for such a heavy and bulky (and nowhere near revolver accurate) piece of equipment.

My next purchase will likely be a .357 magnum/ .38 special.

I'll carry with .357 ammo with my permit and when I'm in the woods I'll load with .38 spcl snakeshot.

The last .38 I had was a derringer. I bought it specifically to use snake shot. Then I tried to load it. The rifling in the barrel started just past the casing so that the rifling hugged around the bullet. Snake shot rounds arent domed they're squared. So they wouldnt fit.

I've also thought of just getting a .410/ 45 long colt derringer for double duty snake gun/ self defense.

For those that consider .22LR to be a self defense weapon I'd recommend at least considering finding some aguila sniper sub sonic rounds. That's what the cops use in drug raids on compounds to dispatch guard dogs and disable lights/ etc.

They not only have about twice the lead but as they are subsonic if used with a suppressor the bolt cycling on the fire arm is louder than the report. Hopefully they still sell them. They usually keyhole when target shooting and make about a .40 entry hole in plywood etc.

I am requesting that anybody who wants to post in this thread to go back and read the original poster(Two Knives Katie) original post, and respect her request. all post that don't will be deleted like some already have. highdesertranger

I dont know what was moderated but yes let's please honor the request. If you are not a proponent of defending yourself with a firearm that is your right. It is also my right to do so.

I'll leave you with a quote.

"If someone has a gun and is trying to kill you, it would be reasonable to shoot back with your own gun." -Dalai Lama.

I decided to look at derringers today as a result of posing my opinions in this thread. What I found was that bond arms seems to be the only game in town. Their pricing is in the range of a cheap .357 magnum revolver or .410 caliber judge type revolver.

I couldn't remember the companies name that cranked out derringers by the thousands in a variety of calibers and I couldnt find any lower priced ones. Then I stumbled across them. Cobra made the poor mans derringers I was looking for.

But their website has been suspended by their web hosting service. Then I googled cobra enterprises news. Apparently they had been having warranty issues and were holding returned firearms for months on end that were "repaired.... awaiting shipping" there was also an article about a civil suit regarding defects in the safety mechanism. It was settled this year.

Apparently the one and only way to get your firearm returned to you is to file a police report with the salt lake city police dept.

So I would recommend anyone considering a derringer to pursue other options. Unless you can pay the price for a bond arms derringer. For my money I can get a comparably priced new in box revolver for the cost of a bond arms derringer.

Couldnt agree more.

.357 magnum in medium to long barrel is probablly the best do everything option to have in a van...except maybe in BC/alaska

I dont care what anyone says the average person is 10x better with a double action revolver over comparable semi-auto. A .45acp may be a more available option but ive shot all the big boys at indoor rentals; springfields, glocks, SW, etc All of them are hard to hit 8" spread at even 10 yards. Put a .357 in your hand right after and youre suddenly hitting 2-4" spreads at worst with as much or maybe more ballistic power.

Yeah .357 is a mother trucker of a caliber. Factor in that it also chambers .38 special for lesser expensive target practice and snake shot shells and it's a pretty well rounded option. Like having 2 guns in one.

I've been wanting a break action .410 snake charmer shotgun for a while. I dont recall if they are rated to also chamber .45 long colt or not. I'd probably have one already but my state doesnt allow big game hunting with a .410. I believe even if you dont have any .410 shells in possession and only .45 LC.

There are loads of .410 subcaliber devices including .22 LR. Those 2 weapons together could serve every need you might have including hunting small game, big game, fowl, dispatching snakes, self defense, and just plinking .22s for fun.

Always know your local hunting laws regarding calibers as well as the legality of possessing an handgun for snakes while hunting. Etc etc etc.
