I went to the RTR for 3 days and It was a great experience, and not only did I get a lot of tips from the experienced car and vandwellers there, I had my first experience cardwelling with a Honda CR-V for 3 days straight (I've never really had a full nights rest in a car before). After that, I went to Los Angeles and though I wasn't daring in where I parked, I've slept for 5 days straight stealth parking. The CR-V, while big for cardwelling, I find it a bit too cramped for daily living other than doing long trips (which is why I'll continue looking for a van).

However, I'm thinking why didn't I do this long time ago? It's great not having to worry about paying for motel rooms or rent. It's also great having more "outdoors" time, not having to worry so much about returning to a single location just to sleep. Car or vandwelling to me seems more practical and reasonable for living than spending so much money just for a place to sleep or to stay in to work (particularly if you live in California). I mean, if your an outdoors person, all you really need is a place to sleep and maybe use the bathroom. An outdoors person doesn't need an apartment or house, something that limits an outdoors person from, well, staying outdoors and traveling. To me, being inside bogs me down and drains my energy, so being outdoors more is a good thing (and I get to enjoy the mornings more!) And if I want to work on my computer, I use a starbucks or mcdonalds (mcdonalds nowadays look really nice to just hang around in, and more and more mcdonalds are making power outlets available) but even if I want to be inside, I can use my laptop in my car easily and especially will be able to use a desk in a van.

The big problem that I had, using public restrooms, I'm finding ways to make more easy to do. Having a van will allow me to have my own portable restroom, which should eliminate the need to use public restrooms. The only thing I don't look forward to is emptying a portable toilet (if you have a high capacity toilet, you might only need to do it a little more than once a month.)

One more problem I've had to deal with, I'm getting better at, is dealing with a cold car at night. I have a ski hat with a face mask to sleep along with a sleeping bag (that doesn't work so great where my feet are, which I'm wearing warm slippers instead, a fix till I buy a better sleeping bag.

I just wanted to tell my first experience cardwelling, and even better when I get a van.
