The topic here is not "the future is a Big Brother dystopia"

Nor is the message "become a Juggalo in order to retain privacy in public places" (or Juggalette, depending on your gender presentation, both are fans of the rap group "Insane Clown" Posse)

And let's not get into how cool or weird that subculture is.

Just an article of interest for those looking to learn more about how FR works.

About 20 years ago Wired ran an article about how people were using odd makeup patterns to confuse primitive facial recognition. Reminded me a bit of WW1 dazzle camo.

Exactly, in fact that tech specifically referenced in the article.

Hiding the jaw outline is key.

Eye spacing, triangle of eyes noise and chin, height of ears to noise and eyes.

Well by golly, painting one's face like that sure makes one inconspicuous ............ Those cameras would NEVER be able to track you ............... And I'm sure no one in the bank will mind ............

(snicker)

But but, I would have to drink Faygo!

The tech is of course improving, but my understanding is that these systems work best on smaller data sets. Matching a name to a face from a database of 1,000 is pretty easy, 10 million is pretty hard.

A license plate is automatic, the particular spectral pattern of your panels on your roof as viewed by a drone or satellite probably pretty easy.

Once you get the knock you are likely in the local PD 'book'....
